Reporting to the Program Chair, the Instructional Assistant will work alongside like-minded individuals dedicated to helping our learners acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies required for future practice in Therapeutic Recreation. This position requires someone who is dependable, possesses excellent communication skills, likes to work with people, and has a desire to play at work & work at play.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:




As a NorQuest Instructional Assistant, you will facilitate learning in a variety of methods including coaching, mentoring, modeling in a laboratory setting. You will work collaboratively with the instructional team to provide ongoing monitoring, and feedback to the students to facilitate the successful completion of their diploma program. Instructional Assistants help our learners acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be safe and successful healthcare practitioners. You will bring your creativity and passion for therapeutic recreation to the classroom.

General Responsibilities:



Demonstrates effective human relations skills Demonstrates professional conduct Adheres to policies and procedures of the program and college Participates in professional development Contributes to the achievement of divisional and program unit goals Carrying out other duties as assigned

Classroom and Lab Responsibilities:



Organization and maintenance of lab space, equipment, and materials. Assist in the preparation and delivery of instructional material for both theory and lab courses (under the direction of the course instructor) Provide instructional support for both online and in-person classes Supervision of students in a lab setting Monitor and provide feedback on student performance and progress Modelling professional behaviour at all times Maintaining appropriate student records and reports Liaise with other instructional team members

WHAT YOU BRING:



Diploma in the field of therapeutic recreation. Active registration with ATRA (Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association). A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a recreation therapy assistant (RTA), or equivalent, role providing direct client care Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience coaching, mentoring, and/or implementing curriculum Computer skills and experience with online learning management system preferred

A Police Information Check within the last ninety days. A Vulnerable Sectors Check within the last thirty days. Up-to-date immunization records including COVID-19 vaccinations. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to teach individuals at different skill levels. Ability to establish an interactive learning environment with skill, practice, and be able to apply the basic principles and practices of adult education. Ability to assess and provide feedback on student performance through various methods. Advanced skills in conflict resolution and problem-solving. Ability to develop different classroom strategies to keep learners engaged. Strong oral communication and writing skills. Culturally sensitive and have an ability to work with a diverse population. Passionate about Therapeutic Recreation.

SALARY:

Bi-weekly salary is $2,078 to $2,700 reflective upon what you bring based on your education and experience.
