Reporting to the Program Chair, the TR Instructor will work alongside like-minded individuals dedicated to helping our learners acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies required for future practice in Therapeutic Recreation. This position requires someone who is dependable, possesses excellent communication skills, likes to work with people, and has a desire to play at work & work at play.

This is temporary full-time position until June 30, 2026. The successful candidate must be able to teach in-person at the downtown Edmonton campus.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As a NorQuest Instructor, you will facilitate learning in a variety of methods including; lecture, laboratory, and practicum learning. In the instructor role, you will assess, monitor, evaluate, and provide feedback to the students in order to facilitate the successful completion of their diploma program. Instructors help our learners acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be safe and successful health care practitioners
General Responsibilities:
Demonstrates effective human relations skills
Demonstrates professional conduct
Adheres to policies and procedures of the program and college
Participates in professional development
Contributes to the achievement of divisional and program unit goals
Carrying out other duties as assigned
Teaching Responsibilities:
Prepare and deliver instructional material for both theory and lab courses
Provide instruction for both online and in-person classes
Participate and assist with curriculum development projects
Responsible for curriculum maintenance of instructional courses
Supervision of students in both lab and practicum settings
Assess, monitor, and evaluate student performance and progress
Managing student progress and providing resources to enhance student learning
Modelling professional behaviour at all times
Maintaining appropriate student records and reports
Liaise with other instructional team members
WHAT YOU BRING:
A Bachelors degree in Therapeutic Recreation (Masters degree an asset)
Current professional member of ATRA (CTRS certification is an asset)
Minimum of five years clinical experience in recreation therapy
Minimum two years of experience in a post-secondary environment (or coursework in adult education)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience teaching, mentoring, and/or developing curriculum
Computer skills and online teaching experience preferred

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to teach individuals at different skill levels
Ability to establish an interactive learning environment with skill, practice, and be able to apply the basic principles and practices of adult education
Ability to evaluate student performance through various academic methods
Advanced skills in conflict resolution and problem-solving
Ability to develop different classroom strategies to keep learners engaged
Strong oral communication and writing skills
Culturally sensitive and have an ability to work with a diverse population
Passionate about Therapeutic Recreation

This is a Faculty role, and the pay range is quite large, check out the Faculty Collective Agreement Appendix A to better understand how pay is determined.
