Reporting to the Program Chair, the IA will work alongside like-minded individuals dedicated to helping our learners acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies required for future practice in Therapeutic Recreation. This is a casual position that will begin on August 18, 2025. The successful candidate will support both online and in-person labs and must be able to facilitate learning in person at the downtown Edmonton campus.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE:
A diploma in therapeutic recreation
Current professional member of ATRA
Minimum of three years clinical experience working as a recreation therapy assistant (or equivalent)
Prior formal or informal facilitation experience is an asset
Experience with technology and online learning systems is an asset.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As a NorQuest Instructional Assistant, you will facilitate learning in a variety of methods including coaching, mentoring, modeling in a laboratory setting. You will work collaboratively with the instructional team to provide ongoing monitoring, and feedback to the students to facilitate the successful completion of their diploma program. Instructional Assistants help our learners acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be safe and successful healthcare practitioners. You will bring your creativity and passion for therapeutic recreation to the classroom.
General Responsibilities:
Demonstrates effective human relations skills
Demonstrates professional conduct
Adheres to policies and procedures of the program and college
Participates in professional development
Contributes to the achievement of divisional and program unit goals
Carrying out other duties as assigned
Classroom and Lab Responsibilities:
Organization and maintenance of lab space, equipment, and materials.
Assist in the preparation and delivery of instructional material for both theory and lab courses (under the direction of the course instructor)
Provide instructional support for both online and in-person classes
Supervision of students in a lab setting
Monitor and provide feedback on student performance and progress
Modelling professional behaviour at all times
Maintaining appropriate student records and reports
Liaise with other instructional team members
WHAT YOU BRING
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience coaching, mentoring, and/or implementing curriculum
Computer skills and experience with online learning management system preferred
If your education was received internationally we recommend you obtain an international education assessment through IQAS, WES, or one of the other nationally designated organizations.
