Job Description

DFX Technical Services Inc. is a telecommunications design and engineering service provider in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area. Summary: Responsible for collecting field data related to outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) telecommunications projects. The Telecom Surveyor Technician role requires a highly motivated self-starter who posses the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a large cross-functional team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend customer requested site visits to prospective customer locations to determine best and most effective ways to construct fibre optic networks at those facilities
  • Collect aerial and underground field data for telecom design and permitting by physically walking the plant
  • Complete pole survey audit using IKE GPS photographic data acquisition system.
  • Operate GPS and other field data gathering devices
  • Mobile Mapping - Operate Trimble MX50 LiDAR data collection device
  • Operating company vehicle
  • Interface with internal GIS teams
  • Develop and complete associated paperwork (sketches of both ISP and OSP pathways, drawings, including site survey paperwork, address listings, bill of materials, associated pictures and cost estimates)
  • Identify existing utilities
  • Identify any issues or obstacles preventing a successful construction of the network
  • Identify customers network and review proposed methods of construction
  • Responsibilities will include measuring and recording dimensions of buildings/facilities (exterior and interior), telecom rooms, equipment rack locations, and in some cases, device placement within the racks.
  • Analyst will also capture exterior and interior digital photos of all locations, rooms, racks, devices, cabling, ports, etc
  • Other duties are required
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • High school diploma minimum and/or a College or Technical Program (Civil / Structural Engineering, or Architectural Technologies) is an asset.
  • 1 year experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience interpreting CATV, FTTH or Telecom construction/contractor blueprints & as-builts
  • Knowledge of RF/CATV and fibre systems (fibre-to-the home/FTTH, FTTB, FTTx) an asset
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency
  • Knowledge and understanding of subsurface utilities
  • Ability to operate a GPS, laser range finder & measuring wheels
  • Proficient use of a wireless tablet & smart phone
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work and collaborate in a team environment
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly motivated self-starter with an attention to detail is a must
  • Experience with GIS software and tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, 3-GIS an asset
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat, lift 50 lbsand walk for long periods of time; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
  • Valid Ontario drivers licence
  • Willing to travel as required

Experience:
  • GIS: 1 year (preferred)
  • utility or telecom field survey: 1 year (required)
