Major Activities of the Job

Test development and optimization, routine testing

Characterize vaccine antigens and other products using microbiological (bacterial/viral) and molecular analysis methods.

Assess consistency of antigens to support process development and stability studies.

Develop and optimize testing methodologies for release and/or characterization of novel vaccines.

Research and development of assay design, ability to troubleshoot independently and assessment and interpretation of data.

Maintenance of laboratory equipment and training of other personnel on the use of equipment, as applicable.

Routine testing of new vaccines for characterization and release of clinical trial materials, using microbiological methods, such as: Sterility test, Microbial enumeration methods, Bacterial identification methods, pyrogen tests and other microbiological assays.

Monitor inventory of chemicals, reagents and supplies. Ensure proper disposal of biohazard waste. Place orders for required materials.

Documentation of experimental results and preparation of reports

Complete and accurate records are kept of all experiments and data, according to Good Documentation Practices. This includes electronic documentation systems.

Responsible for the preparation of regular reports, protocols and SOPs/SWIs.

Prepare data summaries and reports and submit for review and approval by Platform Scientific staff. Results are presented and discussed at meetings, as required.

Submit test results reports to requestor/customer (e.g. Test requisition forms), following Scientific staff review and approval.

Maintenance of quality systems, including GxP, HSE compliance

Ensure compliance is maintained in all activities by following all applicable SOPs/SWI, and other relevant guidelines.

Responsible for identifying and notifying supervisor and/or responsible scientific staff of any test non-conformance. Prepare non-conformance reports and supporting documentation as required. Assist in laboratory investigations, as required.

Ensure adherence to GxP and HSE guidelines, as outlined in departmental, corporate and site policies. Responsible for reviewing SDS and PSDS sheets and ensuring compliance with requirements.

Reports any equipment or facility performance and maintenance issues to Manager and/or to Scientific staff. Drive action plan to resolve issues.

Test transfer, validation and Implementation

Responsible for writing protocols and reports for method validation and test transfers.

Executes testing in support of test validation and transfer protocols.

Compiles data, performs preliminary analyses and troubleshooting, as required.

Updates all relevant documents and implements changes, as required.

Support equipment qualification activities, when required.

Responsible for compliance with departmental, Site, Corporate and GxP guidelines on test validation and transfer.

Co-ordinates testing and training with analysts from other laboratories for transfer of assays.

Review of relevant Scientific/commercial literature, and application of this information to new test development and continuous improvement

Understanding of the scientific rationale and technical approach for the experiments being executed.

Recommend approaches for the improvements of assays.

Periodic review of the literature in relevant fields.

Training and other activities to support HSE, Digital approaches, Communication within Platform

Complete all required training on time

Support digital approaches (e.g. ilab), as required

Maintain an awareness of key projects and activities within the Platform and Analytical Sciences.

Attend and actively participate in required departmental meetings and activities.

Remain flexible to assuming different roles and responsibilities as required within the Platform and Analytical Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Virology plus a minimum of six (6) months previous relevant work experience.

Preferred four (4) years Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Virology plus a minimum of one (1) year previous relevant work experience in Research institute, University research lab, industrial research lab.

Knowledge of Computer-aided design and data analysis.

Technical problem solving and standard laboratory technical skills.

Knowledge of design and validation of analytical tests.

Microbiological/ Virology and molecular biology skills and technical abilities.
