General Accountability

Develop, draft, revise, and release technical and process documentation related to all aspects of management, installation, testing, operations, maintenance, and repair within the Infrastructure and Engineering Group.

Key Job Functions

  • Lead the development and writing of documentation that is clear, concise, accurate, and timely in order to meet internal and external stakeholders' needs and requests for use across multiple areas of the organization
  • Develop comprehensive documents that adhere to TTC and industry best practices and are in alignment with engineering solutions, safety and environment practices, legislation, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) manuals, subject matter expert knowledge and all TTC policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Manage the document development process including the review, approval and release to stakeholders
  • Review and revise documents when requested and/or as per new designs, process changes, or changes to safety and environment requirements and legislation
  • Prepare technical documents, reports and updates that meet requirements and use a variety of software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Liaise with all levels of management, supervisory, technical and field personnel to understand tools, equipment and processes, and recommend and implement improvements
  • Coordinate meetings with various stakeholders and organize on-site validation activities
  • Collaborate with applicable stakeholders to facilitate the timely release of documents
  • Perform research applicable to the goals and objectives of the document being developed
  • Attend and participate in meetings, discussion and site visits to observe and analyze operations
  • Participate in technical problem solving, complex diagnostics, and quality assurance activities
  • Respond to inquiries, provide status updates, and communicate all aspects pertaining to technical writing
  • Update and maintain section administrative records, the Document Management System (DMS) and the Intranet site
  • Attend internal and external training as required or requested
  • Act as a designate and/or assist the Supervisor and other team members as required
  • Comply with TTC policies, rules, regulations, procedures and safe work practices
  • Perform related duties as assigned
  • Participate in the TTC's Customer Service Ambassador Program

Education and Experience

Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.

Additional Requirements
  • Excellent technical writing and editing skills required to develop technical and process documentation including procedures, standard operating procedures, work methods, forms, templates, reports, presentations, and guides
  • Strong, well-developed and effective interpersonal and communication skills to communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders across the organization from front-line workers to executive management.
  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and applications including MS Office, AutoCAD, Draftsight and/or Solidworks, and familiarity with or ability to quickly learn the data and methodologies for Inventory Finance System (IFS), and Maximo
  • Good judgement supported by strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use software and database packages to analyze information and develop trends, statistical profiles and economic comparisons
  • Demonstrated collaboration, organization and planning skills
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to timelines
  • Demonstrated proficiency in structured / unstructured document authoring and design using Adobe FrameMaker is an asset
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
