TECHNICAL WRITER

Aversan Inc. ( ) is a reputable Engineering Company that provides expertise in Systems Integration, Product Design/Development and Software/Product Testing for highly regulated industries including Digital Health, Medical Devices, IT and Aerospace. We are currently seeking a qualified Technical Writer to work on leading edge technology products. The successful candidate for this position will be a part of highly motivated and highly technical work environment that feeds off the collective energy of a team-oriented workplace.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The User Documentation Specialist will create user manuals, training material and other documents needed to understand the functionality of a product or service, edit documentation for clarity without changing key information.
Conduct research on the specified area of topic and collaborate with subject matter experts to progress the work.

  • Prepare, author, and/or revise technical documents in accordance with Canadian Armed Forces or Canadian Coast Guard standards and specifications.
  • Review products of the technical data package in collaboration with engineers to ensure that the technical data reflects the latest system/equipment configuration of the ships, is complete, accurate and consistent across the support solution.
  • Analyze Document Change Requests and liaise with technical contributors as appropriate to address the request and prepare or coordinate the development of the Change Package to identify the technical data package changes and revisions.
  • Implement the technical data package changes and revisions or collaborate with procurement personnel to contract out the implementation of the changes and revisions.
  • Review and provide concurrence to changes and revisions of the technical data package ensuring the products are technically accurate, logically presented.
  • Coordinate the development of new technical data in support of engineering changes, technical bulletins, and logistics support analysis or problem reports.
  • Ensure standards, procedures / practices and controls are being followed.
  • Predominantly office work but may be required to work temporarily in military or coast guard facilities.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess a minimum of a 2-year technical program diploma offered by a recognized technical institute or eligibility for registration as a technician by a recognized provincial, state, or federal (national) licensing body in a technical field related to any naval discipline including mechanical, electrical, electronic (including software), naval architecture, or equivalent.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience with the production, revision, publishing and/or coordination of technical data package products including technical publications, systems and equipment manuals, technical drawings and associated lists.
  • Language: English (Essential), French (Desirable)
  • Successful completion of the Technical Writer Ontario College Graduate Certificate program or equivalent.
  • Experience in desktop publishing processes and graphics production software such as Adobe Suites.
  • Knowledge of S1000D specification and IETM format.
  • Experience in the Canadian Forces Technical Orders format and the modification of existing OEM Technical Publications into Government Adopted Publications.
  • Knowledge of the National Defence Index of Documentation and equipment registration number processes.
  • Experience in Logistics Support Analysis Record software and/or manipulating raw .XML data.
  • Desired background in radars and navigational aids, as well as radio and satellite communication systems, air defence and air traffic management systems, command and control networks and data links.
