Duties


Parks Canada is looking for the ideal candidate to fill the position of Technical Services Coordinator for the Jasper Field Unit. This position will provide supervision of and technical leadership and expertise for maintenance and repairs for built assets in Jasper National Park and Fort St. James National Historic Site. Assets include a combination of: road infrastructure; highways and bridges; buildings and structures (historic, contemporary); recreational facilities including campgrounds, day use facilities, trails; vehicles and heavy equipment fleets; plaques; public utilities (i.e. potable water distribution and treatment systems, wastewater systems, electric power systems, solid waste systems, climate-control systems); radio communications systems and petroleum storage tanks.
The individual will supervise teams including; electricians, plumbers, painters, carpenters, and general labourers. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to;
  • Developing work plans for maintenance and repairs for teams and ensuring they are carried out
  • Reviewing, approving, and ensuring that work orders are carried out
  • Managing human and financial resources
  • Inspection of assets and developing practical and cost-effective solutions to observed issues
  • Managing maintenance and repair contracts
  • Providing technical advice and direction to teams and colleagues
  • Assist in capital planning and identification of short and long term goals and needs
  • Managing the Field Unit\xe2\x80\x99s inventory of fleet vehicles
  • Communicate and coordinate with various internal stakeholders

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

EDUCATION

  • Red Seal Journeyman Certification as a Plumber, Electrician, Painter, or Carpenter; and/or

Graduation with a degree / diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization related to the duties of the position in any of the following; Electrical (Engineering, Construction, Industrial), Mechanical (Engineering, Industrial, Power Engineering), Civil (Engineering, Construction); and/or

Post-secondary Construction Management Training. Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in inspection and maintenance of built assets;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in planning, managing and inspecting construction/repair/maintenance projects;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with and leading multi-disciplinary teams;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing contractors;
  • A minimum of 5 years experience managing human and financial resources;
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience within the last 5 years in the development and enforcement of site-specific construction safety plans.

Conditions of employment

  • You are required to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status security clearance.
  • You are required to possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence (Class L, N or other graduated licenses will not be accepted).
  • You must be willing to work overtime.
  • You will be required to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager.
  • You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of the duties.
  • You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • You may be required to wear a uniform while performing your duties.
  • You much be willing and able to wear required safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
