The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Technical Leader Tailings Operations to join our North Atlantic Tailings and Dams Group, in Thompson, MB. This is a permanent position. Relocation to Thompson is required.

The Technical Leader Tailings Operations supports ensuring the integrity of the tailings facility by performing the scope of work for key aspects of tailings and pond management, with a focus in process safety for the operation, surveillance, ongoing construction of tailings facilities, and liaising with the Engineer of Record (EoR), and other internal teams and the Accountable Executive.

Additionally in this position you will:

  • Audit and analyze trends in safety (utilizing the Safe Production model), environment, production, cost, and quality, as well as the consumption of resources.
  • Leads and ensures safe behaviors are exhibited by team members. Coach members and take corrective action when necessary to address noncompliance.
  • Support the development of execution plan strategies and implement operating plans for the area(s) of responsibility, considering, targets and related actions to reduce incident frequency rates, environmental performance, quality, costs, and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor area performance, and asset integrity, to confirm that processes are in place to maintain the plant and equipment, sustain/build capability, and to achieve the targets outlined in the Execution plan.
  • Adhere and implement standards in accordance with Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Tailings and Dams Management System, GISTM and MAC to the Tailings Management Area.
  • Contributes to the implementation of new systems/processes and provides guidance, auditing, mentoring, and analysis support to the management team.
  • Dust control activities, develops Scope of Work and initiates contract request for new services.
  • Coordinate and facilitate regulatory risk assessments for the facilities and area of accountability.
  • Field visits and employee engagement.
  • Support or Coordinate Critical Control Verification Routines.
About You

Education:
  • Bachelor (or equivalent) of Engineering in appropriate discipline.
  • P. Eng, designation.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years engineering experience is required.
Skills:
  • Good communication, and organization skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Change Management knowledge and/or training.
  • Critical thinking skills, taking ownership for the whole.
  • Ability to assess and communicate safety, risk, productivity, and cost impacts.
  • Value diversity of thought and ability to manage expectations from multiple stakeholders to deliver on planned work.
  • Knowledge of integrated operations planning and scheduling best practices and systems.
  • Facilitates changes, with a focus on core business outcomes.
