JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Technical Engineer/Officer.

Reporting to the Section Manager, Environmental Assessment & Licensing Support within Darlington New Nuclear Project, this position will support activities related to DNNP including (but not limited to) Site Preparation Licence renewal and development, establishment and execution of strategic plans to advance DNNP project in accordance with OPG\xe2\x80\x99s business plan.

In addition, the individual may be required to support the evaluation of emerging nuclear technologies such as Small Modular Reactors for other potential applications to capture potential nuclear growth opportunities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintain and/or update operating and other specified department/divisional procedures.
  • Prepare new or revised procedures consistent with operating licenses, policies, principles, department standard practices, standing instructions, maximum safety of operation, minimal risk of damage or loss, optimum frequency of routines; efficient operation and the like.he various external regulatory agencies and internal contacts.
  • Business analysis, business strategies, and financial planning to effectively execute projects and programs.
  • Contract negotiations, risk evaluation, identification of financial, operational and technical issues associated with projects, to evaluate project alternatives and prepare business cases.
  • Project management, Scope of Work development, Schedule development, Cost estimate development and monitoring, techniques and concepts
  • Familiarity with the various external regulatory agencies and internal contacts.
  • May be required to gather and collate data for use in department budget preparation and to monitor variances to annual budget and submit to Supervisor for reporting purposes.
  • Prepare or help prepare specifications, for purchasing requisitions for material, services and equipment. Follow up with procurement and provide necessary technical services during field installation.
  • Prepare reports to provide information and data in answer to external requests or for historical purposes.
  • Provide technical evaluations and advice, solve problems and coordinate technical work as required in support of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of the facilities.
  • Be responsible for a definable portion of projects, processes or work programs.
  • Prepare submission including cost justification or financial evaluation as appropriate; recommend adoption of the proposal and steps required to incorporate it. Prepare as required and on receipt of authorization, detailed documentation of the proposal, such as equipment specifications, engineering calculations, installation, testing, operating and maintenance procedures and the like.
  • Recommend research and development programs required to improve equipment, system or unit reliability or performance, chemical control, material performance, rates and the like.
  • Other Duties as Required
EDUCATION
  • Four year University Degree in Engineering or related fields
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
  • Experience working in projects, processes or work programs in a similar capacity role.
  • Experience in designing, developing pr operation of nuclear materials or components.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability provide guidance.
  • Experience and knowledge of cost accounting and forecasting as it relates to project management.
  • Experience in managing projects of increasing complexity is considered a necessary requirement; project complexity would normally be defined by multiple-contract, multiple stakeholder projects with schedule constraints.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills and highly developed organizational skills.
