POSITION OVERVIEW
In the position of Team Lead, you will make a difference every single day as you as you support the Production Manager in overseeing and coordinating daily production, optimizing machine output, and ensuring product quality and documentation accuracy. This role involves setting a positive example, providing guidance, training, and support to foster a constructive work environment. Fully trained in all aspects of plant production, the Team Lead also covers operator roles as needed. Furthermore, the Team Lead assists in planning, assigning, and reviewing production team activities, providing valuable feedback for organizational success and growth. This position operates on the MAD rotation of Midnights 10:30pm-7:00am, Afternoons 2:30pm-11:00pm and Days 6:30am-3:00pm - rotating every two weeks.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
High School Diploma or GED required.
Post-secondary education in a related field
(e.g., Food Science, Operations Management, Business Administration) is an asset.
Minimum of 3+ years of experience
in a food processing or manufacturing environment, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds as required.
Forklift and pallet jack certification
, or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
Strong Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively lead, motivate, and collaborate with diverse teams and communicate with all levels of staff.
Leadership & Team Building:
Proven ability to apply effective leadership principles, motivate a team, and foster a positive, productive work environment. Additional supervisory training is beneficial.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Planning and Scheduling:
Collaborate with the Production Manager to develop and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules, optimizing resource utilization and meeting demand.
Monitor daily production to ensure optimal machine utilization, product quality, and accurate documentation.
Coordinate with departments (e.g., Warehouse and Quality Assurance) to ensure timely availability of materials, packaging and prompt product sampling.
Adjust production plans in response to unforeseen issues.
Monitor production progress against targets and proactively identify potential bottlenecks.
Review the daily manpower schedule to identify areas requiring additional assistance based on task demands.
Food Safety and Quality Control:
Conduct regular work area inspections to uphold cleanliness standards, assigning daily cleaning tasks to operators via Townhall meetings and Handover Takeover documentation.
Strictly enforce and adhere to all food safety programs, including HACCP, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and SQF (Safe Quality Food) standards.
Conduct regular in-process quality checks to ensure products meet specified parameters (e.g., weight, moisture, PH, temperature, appearance, foreign material).
Regularly inspect packaged products to confirm they meet quality standards and are ready for customer shipment.
Identify and report quality deviations, initiating corrective actions as needed.
Oversee proper sanitation procedures for equipment and work areas.
Participate in internal and external food safety audits.
Ensure adherence to established HACCP, biosecurity, and health and safety procedures across all operational facets.
Oversee post-shift cleanup operations and ensure all required weekend sanitation procedures are executed before the next production run.
Documentation and Procedures:
Ensure accurate and complete documentation of all production activities, including batch records, quality checks, and sanitation records.
Review daily documentation from each production area, including HOTO forms, verifying accuracy and completeness, and addressing discrepancies with operators.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure team compliance.
Assist in the development and revision of production SOPs and work instructions, ensuring currency and clarity.
Ensure all necessary production paperwork is submitted accurately and on time.
Training and Development:
Provide on-the-job training and ongoing coaching to production operators on new procedures, equipment, and best practices.
Identify training needs within the team and communicate them to the Production Manager.
Foster a continuous learning environment, encouraging skill development and cross-training.
Conduct performance feedback sessions and contribute to performance reviews for team members.
Maintain thorough training documentation to monitor progress.
Serve as the primary trainer for essential safety protocols such as Lockout Tagout, Forklift Operation, Chemical Safety, Fall Arrest, and Powered Air Purifying Respirator.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring all team members adhere to health and safety regulations and company policies.
Conduct daily safety checks and toolbox talks.
Report all workplace incidents, near misses, and hazards, and assist with implementing corrective actions.
Regular inspections for proper use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintain compliance with all relevant provincial and federal regulations (e.g., OHSA).
Promote a culture of safety by ensuring all employees comply with Company Policies and report any non-compliance or violations to the Production Manager.
Process Optimization:
Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize machine output.
Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
Troubleshoot production issues and work collaboratively to find effective solutions.
Monitor equipment performance and report any maintenance needs to ensure minimal downtime.
Proactively learn new processes and procedures, actively identifying areas for process improvement.
Inventory Management:
Assist in monitoring and managing raw material, in-process, and finished goods inventory levels on the production floor.
Ensure accurate reporting of material consumption and finished product output.
Minimize waste and rework through efficient material handling and process control.
Coordinate with the warehouse team for material replenishment and finished product transfer.
Submit purchase requests through our CMMS program (Fiix) and promptly alert the Production Manager about any low stock items.
Maintain accurate daily, weekly and monthly inventory counts, ensuring all production spreadsheets are current.
Problem Solving:
Act as the first point of contact for production-related issues, troubleshooting problems quickly and effectively.
Apply analytical skills to identify root causes and develop sustainable solutions.
Address operational challenges, including employee concerns, equipment malfunctions, supply shortages, and production delays, while maintaining open communication with the Production Manager for guidance.
Assist the Maintenance Team as required, effectively troubleshooting equipment issues to minimize downtime.
Escalate complex issues to the Production Manager as necessary, providing relevant details and proposed solutions.
Promote a proactive approach to problem identification and resolution within the team.
Communication and Collaboration:
Effectively lead, motivate, and communicate with all team members.
Act as a liaison between management and the team, communicating instructions, updates, and addressing concerns.
Communicate effectively with the Production Manager, other Team Leads, and cross-functional departments.
Facilitate clear and concise communication within the production team, including daily briefings and shift handovers.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and mutual respect.
Cultivate and sustain positive working relationships with all staff levels to enhance teamwork and collaboration.
Represent the production team in meetings and discussions as required.
Reporting:
Prepare and submit daily shift reports, including output, downtime, waste, and quality metrics.
Promptly report all accidents, incidents, near misses, and hazardous situations to management.
In the event of an incident, including minor accidents, complete and submit an incident report to management without delay.
Report maintenance issues using our CMMS program (Fiix), ensuring adequate communication of concerns.
Report significant operational issues immediately to management, including safety incidents, equipment failures, product loss, product safety concerns, or personnel and coverage challenges.
Provide regular updates to the Production Manager on team performance, challenges, and successes.
Maintain accurate records for auditing and analytical purposes.
Research and Development:
Assist in trials for new products or processes, providing feedback on manufacturability and operational impact.
Collaborate with the R&D team to understand new product specifications and production requirements.
Provide practical insights from the production floor to inform R&D efforts.
General Responsibilities:
Set a positive example for all team members, upholding company values and policies.
Provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to the production team.
Cover operator roles as needed to maintain production flow and provide departmental coverage as assigned.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Learn and assist with the implementation of new documentation or tracking systems.
