Reporting to the Program Manager - Housing & Outreach, the Team Lead is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the HomeBase team, ensuring that team members collaborate effectively to deliver exceptional service to participants served by the program. The Team Lead will be instrumental in guiding the team toward achieving program goals, addressing any challenges that arise, and implementing best practices to continuously improve client care.

full-time, contract term position until March 31, 2026

What You Will Do

Program PhilosophyModel the operational standards set out in the Procedure Manual, and ensure team buy-in and compliance. Understand the Residential Tenancy Act.
Leadership & Team SupportProvide direct leadership, coaching, and supervision to HomeBase team members. Provide input in budgets, meet all funder reporting requirements, and support fund-development activities (tours, data requests, donor information). Lead day-to-day operations of a multidisciplinary team (recruitment, orientation, scheduling, payroll, recognition, and performance management). Coordinate staff onboarding/off-boarding and support ongoing professional development for all staff. Promote a positive, high-performing, and inclusive team culture aligned with The Alex's values. Ensure equitable distribution of workload and adherence to policies and procedures. Facilitate regular team meetings for case planning, program updates, and professional development.
Program Delivery & OversightOversee day-to-day implementation of evidence-based practice and ensure that the team is providing high quality service. Model the operational standards set out in the HomeBase Procedure Manual, and ensure team buy in and compliance. Provide direct service to a small caseload of clients. Develop and maintain staff schedule. Monitor, evaluate and report on program outcomes and KPIs. Ensure proper documentation processes are followed; conduct file and database audits on a regular basis. Provide direct support to team members with participant or work-related issues. Monitor and evaluate outcomes. Work with other Alex staff in a cooperative manner and liaise with other service providers to ensure a high quality of service for our clients. Ensure proper collection and storage of information. Communicate on a regular basis with the Calgary Homeless Foundation regarding referrals and follow up. Maintain client confidentiality and clear boundaries. Represent the program and the agency in the community in a professional manner. Ensure accurate and timely data collection and entry. Collaborate with internal leaders and community partners on shared initiatives. Attend relevant community meetings and focus groups as required. Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Undergraduate degree in Social Work or a related field. Active registration with a regulatory governing body as defined under the Health Professions Act (HPA) is required. Significant experience in working with clients at-risk. Strong leadership skills and some supervisory experience is an asset. Strong interpersonal and time management skills. Ability to work well under pressure and with competing priorities. Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. A solid understanding of housing first and harm reduction principles is required. Familiarity with the program logic model for HomeBase is an asset. Class 5 driver's license, personal vehicle for business use, clean 3-year drivers abstract, and $2 million liability coverage are required. Minimum of 21 years of age and three (3) years of driving experience is required to drive an Alex fleet vehicle. First Aid (Basic or Intermediate) - Level C CPR & AED within 30 days of hire date; certification must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon hire. A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance is required. Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action is preferred.

Work Environment and Hours

The Alex Community Health Centre and outreach components. Standard hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday; some flexibility in schedule may be available. 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours per week) Contract Term position until March 31, 2026. Participation in a rotating 24/7 on-call support will be required. Continuous extended periods of sitting, with some standing and walking (sometimes up/down stairwells). Frequent driving as part of work duties. Occasional time outside in all weather conditions

Working Conditions


This position requires frontline support, in some cases, to be exposed to emotionally disturbing events, such as medical distress, threatened/actual serious injury, violence, abuse, and death. There may also be exposure to situations where clients may be experiencing fear, terror, hopelessness, rage, self-harm and conflict. It is understood and accepted that this position will be working in distress/high-stress situations, which may include emergency response where resiliency, stress tolerance, and the ability to maintain composure are imperative. This position may also be exposed to bodily fluids. The health and safety - both physical and psychological- of our employees is a priority. The Alex is focused on providing a safe, supportive and healthy work environment.

Driving on Behalf of The Alex


This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes and driving an Alex fleet vehicle. Successful candidates must show proof of a class 5 driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Candidates must consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider's requirements and to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle. Driving a fleet vehicle at The Alex requires that staff are at least 21 years of age with a minimum of three (3) years' driving experience. Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines.
