Team Lead – Fibre Planning

Job Description

The Fiber Planning Team Lead - Design is responsible for coordinating, planning, and creating splicing documents for operations teams to execute on in multiple regions within Ontario. Depending upon workload this person may be required to consult with resources in the engineering and/or construction departments. This person filling this position is expected to work closely with the Network Planners, consultants, design engineers and construction contractors to ensure that the needs of the company are being met. This role will be responsible for the planning of fiber and HFC networks while conforming to existing outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) guidelines and standards established by the Client.
The Fiber Planning Team Lead - Design is expected to oversee numerous projects and resources located in multiple regions and time zones. They will continually monitor costs and job progress to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget, as well as provide technical support when required.
YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

  • Provide technical support for new designs, including participation in new design planning
  • Provide administrative management and planning of the fiber optic network systems specific to splicing documentation being utilized for design and construction of the fiber network
  • Engage cross functional teams to ensure collaborative integrated planning and execution
  • Ensure engineering/design activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall delivery schedule
  • Plan the layout of cabling routes from device to device, and ensure that the connection of these devices will maintain sufficient service
  • Coordinate with the professional services firm(s) to assure completeness and correctness of design and construction documents
  • Ensure that Splice Packages are compatible with client's requirements
THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:
  • College Diploma in Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in design and creation of Splice Packages for Fibre Optic Networks of any kind (Hybrid, RFOG, PON, MUX, DWDM, FTTS, FAUG, Greenfield, Seg 3/HMOD, RPHY, and others)
  • Experience with AutoCAD is required
  • Experience with SpatialNet is required
  • PC database, spreadsheet and word processing skills
  • Ability to read and assess fiber and/or HFC designs and prints
  • Excellent leadership, customer relations and communications skills
  • Good analytical skills and good judgment
  • Good written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced and highly energetic environment
  • Capable of working under pressure, sense of urgency
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and courteous manner with diverse work groups
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities
  • Must have excellent QC skills
  • OSP Construction experience of Fiber Splicing in the Telecommunications industry would be considered an asset
