Position Summary
The Employee Team Housing Custodian is responsible for ensuring that all employee accommodation facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and welcoming condition. This role supports a positive living experience for team members by performing routine cleaning, sanitation, and minor upkeep of common areas, residential rooms, and surrounding grounds. The custodian also assists in maintaining a respectful, comfortable, and community-oriented environment for all residents.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & MaintenancePerform daily cleaning of common areas, including hallways, lounges, laundry rooms, restrooms, and kitchens.
Clean and prepare individual rooms before new occupants arrive.
Remove trash and recycling from designated collection areas; ensure proper waste disposal procedures are followed.
Replenish cleaning supplies, paper products, and other necessary items in common areas.
Conduct regular deep cleaning tasks, such as carpet shampooing, window washing, and appliance cleaning.
Safety & ComplianceMonitor cleanliness and report safety hazards, maintenance issues, or damages to the Team Housing Manager promptly.
Follow all health and safety protocols, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and PPE.
Assist in maintaining compliance with fire safety and emergency procedures within the housing facilities.
Resident SupportRespond professionally and courteously to resident concerns or requests related to cleanliness and maintenance.
Support move-in and move-out processes, including inspections and turnover cleaning.
Help foster a cooperative and respectful community environment in the housing facilities.
General DutiesMaintain custodial equipment in good working order.
Assist with light groundskeeping tasks around employee housing (e.g., clearing walkways, tidying outdoor areas).
Perform other duties as assigned by the Housing Supervisor or HR team.
Qualifications & Skills
Previous custodial, housekeeping, or janitorial experience preferred; hospitality or residential facility experience an asset.
Knowledge of cleaning procedures, safe chemical handling, and sanitation standards.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Work Environment
Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Flexible schedule may be required, including weekends and evenings.
Position involves regular interaction with a diverse employee population.
Qualifications and Experience
Hotel industry experience - previous experience an asset.
High school diploma and/or experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
Physical Demands
Ability to spend long hours moving around, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling and/or lifting.
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects.
