Coquitlam School District invites applications from individuals for the position of
continuing
full- time
Teacher
of
the
Deaf
and
Hard
of
Hearing.
As the third largest school district in the province, we are located within a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 32,000 students with approximately 4,300 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff. NECESSARY
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Special Education, with specialization in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Certification or eligibility from the Association of Canadian Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Valid BC teaching certificate
Ability to travel between sites
We require two references (from direct supervisors) and one must be from your current/most recent position.
Candidates
should
have:
Flexibility and ability to work as part of a team
High level of interpersonal and organizational skills, and ability to prioritize
Ability to collaborate effectively with school teams, families, and community agencies
Knowledge of student eligibility for Ministry of Education Hearing and Deafblind categories
Ability to provide universal tier one supports for students with audio challenges in classrooms
Ability to provide program/resource development for students with hearing-based needs
Ability to consult with district and school-based staff, parents, and community agencies to support students with hearing-based needs
Knowledge of current assistive technologies to support students with audio needs
Ability to provide information and consultation to school personnel regarding educational programming and to contribute to IEP development
A willingness to provide a variety of in-service opportunities to school and district staff
A willingness to attend district-based professional development opportunities in an effort to stay current and implement best practices
