Under the direction of the Manager of Communications, the Summer Student, Office of the Mayor and CAO position will:
• Assist in the development and monitoring of the City's official social media communications and assist in the creation or outreach strategies.
• Obtain, create, edit and organize photos and video footage of the Mayor and community activities.
• Conduct research identifying community events and propose outreach initiatives.
• Research and prepare support materials for meetings and delegations.
• Assist with meetings between the Mayor or other local officials, visiting delegations and dignitaries.
• Assist the Mayor's Executive Assistant with general office administration, maintenance of office electronic and paper filing systems.
• Updating and creating new content for the City website and social media pages
• Support the Manager of Communication with writing and editing content for media releases, radio ads, media lines, etc.
• Media monitoring
• To be a representative of the City of Cornwall and maintain outstanding public relations skills and professional image at all times
• Other duties as required for daily operations and special projects.
• Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
Hours:
35 hours per week, 8:30am-4:30pm
Required Qualifications:
• Full-time day student at a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution and be returning to full time attendance the fall of 2025.
• Enrolled in a university or college degree or certificate in communications, public relations, political science, government relations or related field, or equivalent.
• Proven communication skills (verbal and written).
• Excellent command of Photoshop, Adobe Suites, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Instagram and Facebook.
• Ability to work independently as part of a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to develop and implement a plan within strict deadlines.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to travel to various locations across the City in a timely and efficient manner
Asset Qualifications:
• Two years' experience in event management, outreach, communications or public affairs is considered an asset.
• Bilingualism is considered an asset.
If selected for this role, you will need to provide:
• Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory CRJMC (Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check), at the candidate's own expense.
• Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
• Verification of school status
All Summer Students must be Full-time day students at a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution and be returning to full time attendance in the fall of 2025.
