Tax Accountant - Northland Properties

Tax Accountant Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for the legal entity tax filings in Canada, U.S., UK, and Ireland.

Tax Reporting

  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, annual GST/HST, QST and PST returns
  • Prepare timely and accurate US sales and liquor tax returns
  • Prepare timely and accurate VAT returns for our UK and Ireland operations
  • Prepare other tax returns as necessary (withholding taxes, parking taxes, room taxes, destination taxes)
  • Coordinate for all relevant filing requirements
  • Ensure payments are made on time and accurate journal entries posted into the ERP system.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations of relevant GL accounts
  • Ensuring tax updates are accurately captured in our financial systems
  • Liaise with Canada Revenue Agency and relevant provincial ministries on tax matters.
  • Ensure completeness of tax filings across organizational chart
  • Respond to sales tax audits and queries from other tax authorities as and when necessary
Other
  • Responsible for the successful collaboration with inter-department stakeholders (FP&A, Treasury, AP, and Accounting)
  • Gain a thorough understanding around stakeholder expectations and leverage accounting resources and knowledge to meet those expectations
Process Improvement
  • Reviewing current processes and identifying opportunities for change within new ERP system, focusing on process automation where possible
Experience Requirements
  • 2-3 years relevant accounting experience
  • Experience with tax filings required
  • Working towards CPA designation preferred
  • Passion for process improvements
  • Strong financial analysis skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel and ERP systems
