The Opportunity

The Information Technology Department provides information technology expertise and professional services to all City departments, affiliated agencies (Barrie Public Library, Barrie Police Services) and area municipalities receiving Barrie fire dispatch services. The Department is responsible for delivering, administering, managing and supporting (in partnership with the business units) all data and voice communications, including but not limited to network infrastructure, servers, storage infrastructure, printers, computing infrastructure, applications and software, databases, web services, geographic information systems, and project and portfolio management. The Department provides daily technology support to over 1100 users at more than 40 City locations across the City.

The Systems Analyst (SAP Basis) position is responsible for developing, administering, securing, supporting and providing problem resolution for the City\'s SAP applications. Through development and implementation of technology solutions the Systems Analyst (SAP Basis) ensures the Corporation is effectively and efficiently using its information system applications to align with corporate and departmental needs while building positive working relationships with staff, customers, other municipalities, agencies and vendors.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
  • Four (4) year University Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related discipline


Experience
  • Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience in an information technology portfolio developing, supporting, and managing business systems
  • Demonstrated experience in disaster recovery, high availability, virtualization and mobile technologies


Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • Demonstrated Ability to:

    • Experience in SAP upgrades/migrations and kernel upgrades in a virtualized high-available environment.
    • Proficient in Linux commands, Database administration (SQL and HANA), and network architecture design, and troubleshooting. o Experience managing and maintaining multi-landscape environments through client copies, system refreshes, and transport management.
    • Experience with SAP Basis tasks, such as designing and implementing landscape and infrastructure, client strategy, capacity planning (sizing), high-availability and disaster-recovery setup, backup and recovery strategy, storage systems, SAP upgrades, OS/DB migration, system refresh/client copies and Basis administration within an enterprise environment.
    • Monitor all SAP systems (work processes, users, system logs, short dumps, locks, developer traces, system traces, disk space)
    • Experience with CUA, user and role life cycle management such as security role development and maintenance, security design, security configuration, implementation and production support
    • S/4HANA is a plus
  • Intermediate skills include: Analytical; Facilitation; Interpersonal; Presentation; Problem Solving; Project Management; Time Management; Troubleshooting; Verbal Communication; Written Communication
  • Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software: SAP ECC, SAP PI/PO (Process Integration / Process Orchestration), Solution Manager, Netweaver, ADS, BI/BW, Gateway, Fiori and Web Dispatchers
  • Availability, on a rotational basis, to assist with after-hours questions, concerns, or emergencies; to attend evening/weekend meetings or special events; or to work outside of designated normal hours per week

Other Important Information

Location: City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario
  • Please note the City has recently launched a Hybrid Work Program Procedure that may allow a hybrid work arrangement for employees who meet the eligibility requirements.


Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2023 pay range:
  • Pay Level: Level 9
  • Yearly Salary: $76,130.60 to $91,163.80 per year
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $41.83 to $50.09 per hour
