Your Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT System Engineer to join our infrastructure team. This role involves managing and optimizing both on-premises and cloud-based systems, with a strong focus on Kubernetes, Proxmox, Terraform, and AWS. The ideal candidate will also have experience with Dell OpenManage, storage systems, and networking protocols such as iSCSI and Fibre Channel, and be capable of designing and sizing server hardware to meet the performance and scalability needs of specific applications.
How you will contribute

  • Architect and size physical and virtual server infrastructure based on application requirements (CPU, memory, storage, IOPS, network).
  • Perform server lifecycle management including firmware (FW), BIOS, and BMC updates.
  • Utilize Dell OpenManage tools for hardware monitoring and maintenance.
  • Configure and manage storage nodes, including SAN/NAS systems.
  • Implement and troubleshoot iSCSI and Fibre Channel protocols for storage connectivity.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain virtualized environments using Proxmox VE and Kubernetes.
  • Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform for both on-prem and cloud resources.
  • Administer and optimize AWS infrastructure, including EC2, VPC, IAM, and related services.
  • Monitor and maintain system performance, availability, and security.
  • Automate infrastructure tasks using scripting and configuration management tools.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to support CI/CD pipelines and containerized applications.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Linux-based systems (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).
  • Implement and enforce security best practices across systems and cloud environments.
  • Document infrastructure, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for infrastructure-related incidents.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in system engineering or infrastructure roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Proxmox VE.
  • Proficiency in Terraform and AWS infrastructure management.
  • Experience in server sizing and capacity planning for application workloads.
  • Solid Linux system administration skills.
  • Experience with Dell OpenManage and server maintenance tasks (FW, BIOS, BMC updates).
  • Hands-on experience with storage systems and protocols like iSCSI and Fibre Channel.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (VLANs, firewalls, routing).
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Checkmk, Prometheus, Grafana) is a plus.
  • Scripting experience (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada without any type of visa sponsorship/transfer
Must be a local resident of the greater Ottawa area with ability to work 3 days/week on site.
