Overview


Pembina Pipeline Corporation\xe2\x80\x99s Calgary Office is recruiting for a Senior Engineer, System Development to join the team. This position reports to the Manager, System Development in Pipeline Services, part of Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s Pipeline Division.
The System Development Team plays a pivotal role in the continued and future success of Pembina through infrastructure development. Combining the technical aspects of the pipeline systems and commercial structure, the group develops and recommends agile and flexible infrastructure placement and development to adapt in an evolving industry.
This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the entire WCSB trends, market fluctuations, strategic direction of the company, and development of multi million-dollar projects.


Responsibilities


The System Development group is the engineering destination for all commodity movements and development across the Pembina asset base enabling commercial maturity. This role requires a keen interest in how a molecule of hydrocarbon goes from well head to end users, and value pipeline systems can add. The team evaluates commercial opportunities, comparing against the physical asset capabilities and recommendations of infrastructure to enhance Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s service offering.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • System Capacity: In conjunction with the \xe2\x80\x98Hydraulic\xe2\x80\x99 team, provide a consistent, single source of truth to the business around pipeline capacities and limitations;
  • Complete and Assist in the completion of Hydraulic models for the Business Unit to be used in the development of proactive plans for economic, operation and expansions;
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams and engage internal and external stakeholders spanning from Business Development, operations and direct customer interactions, to develop efficient and cost-effective proposals, projects and solutions for customers and operations;
  • Maximize value creation and market performance by evaluating alternative services for existing assets, and be able to make recommendations based on findings;
  • Work with Operations, Optimization and Hydraulic teams to maximize existing asset value and efficiency to producers;
  • Develop, recommend, and manage capital value-creation studies and projects. Identify new opportunities, generate high level estimates and schedules, identify and assess risk elements and provide recommendations supporting execution and alignment to Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s 2030 strategy;
  • Support the generation of service agreements and joint venture contracts.
  • Work closely with Business Development and Commercial teams to provide up front consultation on proposed projects, leveraging system experience on initial options checks;
  • Support the project team during initial development of projects to ensure the projects will operate effectively across the pipeline network;
  • Occasional travel to field locations throughout Alberta and BC to scope projects and stay current with the operations of the system;
  • Work and liaise with field staff and control center operations;
  • Qualified applicant must be able to think in a strategic fashion, and evaluate alternatives in developing projects;
  • Proven talents in concise executive level summaries, distillation of complex opportunities, pipeline constraints and challenges into consumable, business relevant deliverables;
  • Conduct critical conversations with internal stakeholders around pipeline system limitations & the associated alternatives, contractual, construction and or costs;
  • Ability to laterally think about opportunities and challenges to arrive at new alternatives and solutions that yield value for all;
  • Drive development across Pembina\xe2\x80\x99s value chain from Gas processing, transmission to fractionation and work with diverse parties from across the business to articulate the opportunity, while considering commercial, contractual, customer and operability from operations to the control center;

Job Qualifications


  • Candidates will have a degree in Engineering and be registered and in good standing with APEGA;
  • Engineering experience and proven success in defining projects and/or hydraulic modeling;
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling with associated software and other data modeling, analytics tools/methods would be considered an asset e.g. SPS, PipeSim, Pipeflo, Hysys, SynergiGas etc. Excel, Power BI, operational data historians OSIsoft PI etc.
  • Experience with pipeline and facility operations;
  • Ability to communication complex technical solutions to all levels and skill sets of the organization. Concise, value driven targeted & audience relevant;
  • Commercial acumen ability to traverse from volumes, contractual concepts (tolls etc.) to capital costs, operating expenses and the resulting value generation for Pembina;
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations - flexible, adaptable, learns quickly and demonstrates courage and perseverance;
  • High business acumen with an ability to identify prospective opportunities and challenges, articulating the prospective value through metrics and analytics, in both data rich and data poor scenarios;
  • Energetic, resilient, collaborative and goal oriented;
  • Must be highly analytical, self-motivating, excellent communication skills, and have demonstrated ability to establish strong internal and external relationships;
  • Strong technical understanding of pipeline liquid hydraulics, pumps, and operation of liquid pipelines; and
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills are required for the purpose of preparing recommendations, proposals, letters, e-mails, technical presentations, consultation, and project reporting.

The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Calgary.
