Job Summary \xe2\x80\xa2 The system analyst participates in planning, organizing, and providing technical direction in the quality assurance, integration, evaluation, configuration, enhancement, implementation, and lifecycle maintenance of complex computer systems, with a focus on system integration. Provides expert level support for specific systems with respect for their underlying business or operational environment, processes, and workflows. Provides advice and assistance to clients and stakeholders in support of system enhancements and technology roadmaps for applications and services. You will have specialization in your functional area and provide third-level technical and operational systems support, advice, and assistance to clients. Provide expertise in the development and implementation of changes and customer service enhancements, including; feasibility studies, business re-engineering, inter-subsystem and intra-subsystem interfaces, design modeling, design consistency, testing, configuration, documentation, license management, implementation, disaster recovery planning, and maintenance of various information systems, as well as writing standards, guidelines, and recommended practices. Assist in analyses, planning, specifications, definitions, systems interface and other technical requirements for new systems, software, or applications initiatives to ensure current and future interoperability with NAV CANADA systems and infrastructure.

  • May act as a technical lead for various operations in own functional area for moderately complex to complex projects.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Provides advisory and consulting services to the project or to management in support of complex system development, changes, or replacements. May participate in the evaluation of vendor proposals.
  • Writes and contributes expertise to technical documentation.
  • Resolves issues that require a cross-functional solution. Provides advice and guidance on technical data management and system administrative issues to ensure maintenance of performance standards. Leads and participates in root cause analysis.
  • Leads and assists others in analyzing and resolving business system issues. Provides incident support upon escalation and drives problem resolution in order to minimize system down time and loss of data.
  • Writes and executes test cases and defects, or provides support to quality assurance
  • Keeps abreast of emerging computing trends, evolving business processes, external vendor solutions and technology platforms specific to areas of specialization.
Job Requirements

Education:
  • Post-secondary diploma in computer sciences, systems engineering, or related field, OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
Experience:
  • 3 years of experience in systems analysis.
  • Experience writing and contributing to high-quality technical documentation, for example; solution architecture, technical design specifications, and interface control.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams involving internal and external stakeholders and coordinating in a pressurized project environment
Knowledge:
  • Thorough knowledge of test case authoring, execution, and defect management.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and testing process from preliminary design to formal testing and acceptance
  • Knowledge of small, medium, and large-scale computer systems, and software languages
  • Knowledge of maintenance processes, procedures, and business functions in the context of business systems
  • Knowledge in various technologies including software, operating systems, database platforms (MS SQL and / or Oracle), Active Directory, middleware, web and COTS applications, and reporting environments.
  • Current knowledge of industry trends and developments with respect to existing and evolving computer languages and technologies, productivity tools, user problems, communications equipment and systems suppliers, and emerging trends and practices.
  • Knowledge of software asset management practices and related tools.
Abilities:
  • Design, review, and evaluate system integrations and components.
  • Clearly communicate whether speaking or writing; presenting technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Detection and analysis of system deficiencies, recommending system remediation, new actions, or process improvements.
  • Writing coherent and concise documentation that is easily understandable by colleagues, management, stakeholders and customers.
  • Provision of expert advice, guidance, and opinions in area of specialization.
  • Strong analytical skills to plan testing, test, determine root cause, manage defects, and recommend new courses of action for process improvement.
  • Coach others in field of expertise, problem solving, teamwork and innovation, relationship management issues, involve others in problem solving, decision-making, and creative thinking.

Working conditions
  • This position is based at Ottawa Logistics centre but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement
  • Travel occasional
