Work schedule to be discussed with Hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.Your roleWhat you will focus on:

  • Provides senior technical support dedicated to particular operating system(s). Is responsible for initiating, planning and coordinating the effective ongoing operation of that operating system to support client requirements.
  • Participate in rotational on-call schedule to provide 24/7 support for critical and on-air broadcast systems
  • Troubleshoots moderate to very complex problems encountered in the presentation and production environment, such as on-air service interruptions. Conducts detailed problem analysis, liaises with the vendor as required, collaborates with other units (IT, Broadcast Engineering, MTS etc), and implements solutions to restore services and meet the needs of clients.
  • Documents problems and detailed solutions in appropriate systems/logs (Vimbiz, Confluence etc) to retain corporate memory and to aid in resolving future problems of a similar nature.
  • Coordinates various ongoing activities for the support and administration of the systems.
  • Develops operational procedures and standards for new computer systems.
  • Responds to requests from clients, such as -- adding memory for systems and applications, adding and configuring additional users, improving or increasing functionality of the system or application (i.e. access to new devices, better response time, different backup schedule, etc.).
  • Analyzes, plans and coordinates a response to client requests.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements system configurations for new installations or upgrades including security settings, directory structures, networking requirements, access to devices, capacity requirements and interfacing with databases and/or other applications to ensure that the application meets client requirements.
  • Configures (and designs) systems to fulfill requirements for uninterrupted 24 hours per day/7 days per week operations.
  • Configures systems for unattended operation, remote diagnostics and recovery for operational and cost efficiencies.
Systems maintenance:
  • Provides leadership, planning and coordination of projects to effectively manage the upgrading and maintenance of supported systems, following formal methodologies and change management processes to fulfill the operational mandates and minimize the negative impact on users. Working independently when required.
  • Analyzes requirements, evaluates software and hardware, and makes recommendations for upgrades and acquisitions. Liaises with the vendor to ensure successful acquisition of parts and software as well as successful integration of upgrades within the current environment. Also carries out or coordinates any necessary customization as required.
  • Provides technical direction for projects to other units (IT, Broadcast Engineering, MTS etc) ensuring that all areas impacted are involved in the process.
  • Plans and coordinates testing of changes in a test environment before implementation. Schedules and oversees implementation to minimize the negative impact on clients. Ensures follow up to resolve any issues.
  • Plans for, monitors and maintains system integrity and security. Collaborates and provides technical expertise to designated personnel regarding database structure, application architecture, hardware and software technology, functionality and direction.
What you bring:
  • Graduate of College or University in Television & Radio Production, Engineering Technology, Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of applicable technical experience in either TV & Radio Production or Computer Science.
  • Requires detailed knowledge of diverse technologies used within Technological Maintenance and Support and applications used by Media, Corporate and other units (IT, Broadcast Engineering, MTS etc). In-depth knowledge of operating systems is essential, including strong knowledge of system administration tools and processes, and UNIX, Linux or Windows commands and utilities.
  • Requires strong knowledge of hardware and software configurations, security, performance and utilization methodologies, and familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment concepts and high availability clusters.
  • Requires ability to write scripts using languages and tools available on supported platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of programming and scripting languages must include, but not limited to -- Bash, Perl, PHP, SQL, and Powershell, a working knowledge of HTML and XML.
  • Solid understanding of video and audio system design, file based and streaming codecs, including publishing to cloud based end-points.
  • Engineering experience is an asset.
  • Must have experience with network/system monitoring tools including Nagios, SolarWinds, SNMP and syslogs.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills required and an understanding of trend analysis and backup and recovery procedures, knowledge of technical processes and methodologies to ensure maximum systems functions and utilization is required.
  • Understanding of formal methodologies of project management and change management is an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to manage multiple competing priorities and to manage time effectively.
  • Administration of Storage systems including permissions, pools, capacity, and hardware.
  • Experience designing and supporting file-based workflows is an asset.
  • Traditional TV and Radio broadcast knowledge is an asset.
  • Cloud based architecture and system administration is an asset.
