ABOUT YOU

Your strong communication skills will help you when instructing aquatic programs to all ages and special community groups. You are able to provide safety and supervision for all swimmers and first aid when required.



You will provide leadership in assisting with the organization and direction of instructional and recreational aquatic programs and activities for all age levels. You will supervise and participate in the work of aquatic staff who instructs swimming lessons, lifeguards, and perform operational and maintenance work. You are reliable, responsive to customer needs, and excellent at building relationships.



DUTIES:




Supervises the work of aquatic staff engaged in instructing swim lessons, lifeguarding and operational and maintenance duties. Participates in the training and evaluation of aquatic staff, and assists in ensuring the maintenance of established standards of performance and safety for lifeguards, instructors and related pool staff. Performs lifeguarding duties, ensuring the safety of patrons utilizing the aquatic facility and supervises the use of the swimming pools and related areas. Conducts a variety of instructional and recreational aquatic programs as required. Performs a variety of janitorial and minor preventative maintenance tasks such as cleaning the pool decks and operating filters, chlorinators and related water treatment equipment as required. Ability to assign, check, supervise and evaluate the work of aquatic staff; Prepares and maintains a variety of records related to the work.




QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:




Standard First Aid current within 2 years CPR-C current within 1 year Current National Lifeguard Pool Option (NLP) Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (SI) Current Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) Pool Operators Level 1 and High Five: Principles of Healthy Child Development would be an asset.




In addition to the required certifications listed above, you have sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifesaving, artificial respiration and first aid. Sound knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques emphasizing instruction in water safety and aquatic skills is preferred. Working knowledge of pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorination, heating and related pool equipment and procedures. Ability to display sound aquatic skills and to instruct in these skills at standards set by relevant authorities.



Completion of the 12th grade, supplemented by courses in lifesaving aquatics, instruction and pool operation and maintenance, plus sound related experience including some supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.



All employees will be available to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location and are required to submit a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.



HOURLY RATES

: This is a regular part-time position based on a 21-hour work week and involves shift work including days, evenings and weekends. The pay for this unionized position ranges between $30.70 and $36.08 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package.
