Job Summary

Above and Beyond Care Services Inc. is currently hiring a

Support Worker

to provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. The ideal candidate will also possess

security-related experience

to enhance safety within the residential or community care setting. This role focuses on empowering individuals to lead independent and fulfilling lives while maintaining a secure, respectful, and inclusive environment

Key Responsibilities

Personal Support

: Assist with personal hygiene, bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and medication administration/reminders.

Behavioral Support

: Implement Individualized Support Plans (ISP), Behavior Support Plans, and follow Functional and Risk Assessments.

Daily Living Assistance

: Support in cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, and appointments.

Security Oversight

: Monitor and maintain the safety and security of the environment, respond to incidents, and follow emergency protocols.

Emotional Support

: Provide companionship, foster community integration, and engage in therapeutic recreational activities.

Health & Safety Monitoring

: Report any changes in health or behavior; follow all health and safety procedures.

Transportation

: Drive or accompany individuals to community events, job placements, or appointments when needed

Qualification:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid

First Aid & CPR Certification

. Certification as a

Health Care Aide (HCA)

,

Personal Support Worker (PSW)

, or related qualification. Valid

Class 5 Driver's License

. Clear

Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening

. Certification or experience in

security

, crisis prevention, or de-escalation techniques is a strong asset.

Skills and Competencies

:

Strong understanding of

developmental disabilities and mental health challenges

. Competency in

security awareness

, crisis response, and safety planning. Compassionate, patient, and supportive demeanor. Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills. Ability to lift, support mobility, and perform physical tasks safely. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to follow behavior protocols and promote person-centered planning.

Experience

:

Previous caregiving experience is preferred. Experience working with individuals with disabilities, seniors, or chronic illnesses is an asset.

Essential Requirements

Valid driver's license (Class 5). Clear criminal background check and vulnerable sector screening.

Working Conditions

Based in residential or community-based settings. Physically demanding - standing, walking, lifting, and occasional crisis response.

Shift work

: evenings, weekends, holidays, and potential on-call rotations.
