Position Summary

The Supervisor, Security Operations will lead the supervisory function, within scope of authority, at a designated UHN site ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors. The successful candidate will also support and facilitate emergency coordination and communication; investigation and documentation; and loss prevention management activities.

Duties

  • Supervising the day to day operations of Security staff, within scope of authority; assigning and directing staff as necessary.
  • Addressing human resources needs including: monitoring staffing and operational issues, payroll, recruitment, labour relations, performance appraisals, coaching and conflict resolution, and disciplinary action; escalating where necessary.
  • Coordinating and allocating staffing resources in response to emergencies and hospital codes (Code White, Code Purple, Code Red, Code Black, Code Yellow etc.).
  • Ensuring ongoing service quality by providing training and direction to staff, identifying training opportunities, as required.
  • Participating in education programs and in-service meetings.
  • Coordinating security response to all codes and emergency procedures and leading communications with external emergency services including police, fire and EMS.
  • Ensuring all emergency situations are properly documented and provide follow-up as may be necessary.
  • Conducting in depth investigations on major occurrences and ensuring proper documentation of incidents is completed.
  • Inquiring into and investigating matters pertaining to both alleged losses and thefts and wrongful acts of individuals affecting the Hospital\xe2\x80\x99s Security.
  • Monitoring and analyzing statistical information to provide continuous quality improvement through quality indicators; identifying concerns of the Hospital community.
  • Planning and establishing protective and preventive Security systems and monitor Security operations.
  • Establishing and maintaining a visitor control and facility access procedure, including an employee identification system and lock and key control system.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a 2-year community college program in Law Enforcement, Law Security or recognized equivalent, required.
  • Minimum 4 years related experience, required.
  • Current and valid Security License in accordance with the Private Security and Investigative Services Act of Ontario, required.
  • IAHSS membership, required.
  • Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) certification, required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards.
  • Proficiency with MS Office required.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation required.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment, an asset.
  • Previous related supervisory experience, an asset.
  • Certification in Legal Awareness and Use of Force, MLEO, Tactical Communications.
