The Centre for Student Engagement at the University of Toronto Mississauga is committed to holistic student learning and development. Informed by research andassessment, our campus & community based co-curricular programs, services and courses promote access to post-secondary education, transition into university, student engagement and community engaged learning.

The Supervisor, Community Mentorshipwill work with a team of university staff, faculty, and students to support community-based programs that have UTM students as mentors. The cornerstone programs of this position include the Black Youth Mentorship Program, BIGs On Campus, STEAM days at UTM. This position will be responsible for supervision of the Community Youth Programmer.

This position creates on and off-campus programs to provide integrated learning opportunities for current UTM students that support the local community through student engagement. Through the building of these programs they are able to: foster an open and inclusive world view environment; organize and facilitate student development workshops and events; coordinate logistics and direct the work of volunteers and work-study students.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and implementing components of co-curricular programs and activities
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Promoting experiential learning opportunities
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Screening and making referrals to academic advising and learning skills programs and other resources or services
  • Monitoring accounts for a project and/or program
  • Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science or related discipline, or acceptable combination of equivalent education and/or experience
  • Minimum five (5) years related experience in student services (combination of professional and para-professional experience is acceptable) with demonstrated experience at the post-secondary level or within community organizations
  • Experience working with marginalized groups, diverse communities and cultures with demonstrated cross-cultural competency awareness; and understanding of anti-oppression and equity practices
  • Demonstrated experience leading large components of projects
  • Financial management and budget experience required
  • Proficiency in developing assessment tools, analyzing and interpreting data
  • Experience representing the University while working directly with external University stakeholders, such as local government, school boards, not-for-profit agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other community-based partners is required
  • Interpersonal and cross-cultural communications skills are essential
  • Proven leadership, supervisory and problem-solving skills - with proven ability to direct staff to meet departmental goals are required
  • Strong written and public speaking skills necessary
  • Excellent administrative skills, including word processing, desktop publishing and experience with databases
  • Proven ability to create and manage partnerships internal to the University and external within the community
  • Strong assessment (quantitative and qualitative) skills, including program evaluation and performance assessments
  • Proven ability to deal with matters of sensitivity and confidentiality
  • Proven ability to be creative and innovative in the development and maintenance of programs
  • Knowledge of student development theories as they apply to program development and student support services is necessary
