THE ROLE:
The Industrial Superintendent is responsible for field planning, management, and execution of complex Industrial Contracting projects. These may include heavy civil works, mining infrastructure, energy facilities, and other multi-disciplinary industrial projects. You will ensure all work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, regulations, and Acres' high standards for safety and quality.
Please note: For roles where travel is required, a Living Out Allowance (LOA) and applicable uplifts will be provided in accordance with company policy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Department Participation
Participate in scheduled Industrial Contracting Department and project meetings to review progress, site personnel safety, and equipment requirements.
Stay updated on industry developments, construction techniques, industrial project delivery systems, equipment, and emerging technologies.
Build and share knowledge of industrial-specific contract formats, scheduling, labour resources management, and client requirements (e.g., mining and energy clients).
Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to strengthen Acres' industrial execution capacity.
Field Management
Receive assigned projects, review contracts, drawings, specifications, and estimates, and conduct constructability analysis prior to start-up.
Develop clear understanding of project scope, identifying out-of-scope field conditions or client requests, and communicate impacts to the Project Manager.
Prepare labour resources plans and project schedules, assigning Forepersons and crews to ensure productivity and safety objectives are achieved.
Conduct site inspections, evaluate risks, and lead safety planning in collaboration with HSE Advisors.
Direct Forepersons in daily work execution, resolve jobsite issues, and ensure adherence to project plans and specifications.
Oversee subcontractor and supplier activities, reviewing invoices, service tickets, and cost sheets to ensure accuracy and value.
Maintain disciplined daily reporting (labour hours, equipment utilization, materials, RFIs, safety logs, progress).
Perform quality control checks, coordinate field testing (concrete, compaction, welding, etc.), and ensure deficiencies are resolved promptly.
Lead site meetings with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to review progress, schedules, and technical issues.
Provide accurate production updates and cost tracking to Project Managers to support financial performance.
Project Execution & Coordination
Organize and maintain a fully equipped site office, ensuring drawings, safety manuals, and documentation are current and accessible.
Coordinate site layout, surveys, and sequencing of work activities to optimize productivity and efficiency.
Lead daily/weekly site meetings with Forepersons and subcontractors to align on schedules, production targets, and safety priorities.
Review shop drawings, RFIs, and field changes to ensure accurate field communication and implementation.
Maintain daily site records and support project close-out through as-builts, equipment demobilization, and client deficiency reviews.
Human Resources
Mentor and support direct reports; identify training needs and recommend development opportunities.
Conduct verbal and written performance reviews and support crew succession planning.
Recommend promotions, reassignments, or discipline where necessary.
Submit vacation plans early and ensure back-up coverage is arranged.
Foster team collaboration and maintain a positive, respectful work environment.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
10-15 years of progressive construction experience, including at least 3-5 years in a senior site supervisory role (Industrial Superintendent, General Foreperson, or equivalent).
Recognized Trade Ticket (Red Seal or equivalent) required; Gold Seal Certification (or working toward) preferred.
Proven experience on industrial projects (mining, energy, heavy civil, or large-scale infrastructure).
Strong knowledge of industrial safety programs, codes, regulations, and client-specific requirements.
Proficiency in scheduling, cost forecasting, resource planning, and reporting.
Effective leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams and foster collaboration.
Skilled in subcontractor and supplier management.
