This is a Temporary position, approximately a 6-month period. The assignment duration may be reduced or prolonged as applicable.The superintendent will lead and supervise the geology team at the Frood-Stobie Geoscience Facility where all Ontario In-Mine Exploration programs are planned for Ontario operating mines. All core logging to support the mines Life of Mine Plans are performed on site. The Chief Geologist will ensure that all work being performed, and data collected is of the highest quality as it will be used to support economic decision.Additionally, in this position you will

  • Oversee a team of exploration project geologists that assist with the tactical planning and execution of underground and surface drilling campaigns.
  • Develop, mentor, and support the geological team at the Frood-Stobie Geoscience Facility.
  • Accountable for administering and adhering the department\xe2\x80\x99s safety program.
  • Collaborate with all Ontario mines to create the 5-Year Exploration Plan, consolidating and tactically planning for new and existing targets.
  • Compile all Ontario R&D Exploration budget estimates and consolidate the annual submission to Finance Department.
  • Provide monthly communication on Exploration results to different teams in the VBM Leadership.
  • Update monthly R&D and Operating forecasts in SAP based on actual results. Revise forecasts in various project tracking tools.
  • Manage, track and authorize exploration R&D and OPEX expenses.
  • Research, test, and make recommendations on new products and technologies to improve production, reduce costs, or guarantee safety.
About YouEducation:
  • Undergraduate degree is required
  • P. Geo. is required
Experience:
  • 5-7 years of experience in a similar subject area
Skills:
  • Knowledge and proficiency in NI 43-101, resource and reserve estimations, geostatistics, minerology and metallurgy.
  • Expertise in the understanding and knowledge of the geology and ore deposits of the Sudbury Basin.
  • Mine geology experience and diamond drill knowledge.
  • Understanding of underground mining methods and infrastructure design.
  • Knowledge of principles of basic rock mechanics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products to include Datamine, Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
  • Understanding of financial assessments including cost distributions, net present value, cumulative cash flows, depreciation and amortizations, etc.
  • A proven problem solver with leadership, mentoring, team building and motivation skills.
