About Us

Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change (ECC) has a mandate to protect the environment, and human health through regulatory excellence, conservation, partnership, and promotion. To achieve this, we strive to develop legislation, regulations, standards, policies, and guidance for regulated activities based on sound scientific knowledge and expertise. We also coordinate the delivery of provincial targets for greenhouse gas emissions reductions, transition to clean electricity and helping Nova Scotia prepare for the impacts of climate change. We have more than 250 employees working from offices throughout Nova Scotia.

The Climate Adaptation Team supports provincial departments, industry stakeholders and communities to prepare for climate change. We help our partners to identify and understand current and future risks and impacts of climate change on their operations, sector, stakeholders, and goals, as well as implications for communities, landscapes, ecosystems, and infrastructure. We also help coordinate large multi-stakeholder climate adaptation capacity building initiatives inside and outside of government.

About Our Opportunity

Working under the direction of one of our climate adaptation senior policy analysts, you will support the Research and Knowledge Mobilization Team to implement our programs and projects related to strengthening our understanding of climate change risk and adaptation in the province. This includes, but is not limited, to conducting targeted background research and literature reviews and assisting with various climate change research projects. Opportunities will be available to work with or enhance geospatial (i.e., GIS) datasets, depending on project needs and the successful applicant\xe2\x80\x99s skillset.

About You

To be eligible for this position, you must currently be enrolled full-time in an Environmental Sciences or Studies, Planning, Policy, or other relevant post-secondary concentration and returning to school in the Fall of 2024. Knowledge of the provincial climate change risk assessment and/or adaptation approaches is considered an asset, as is familiarity with equity in relation to climate change impacts.

In addition to the above, the below will be key for success within the position:

• Demonstrated experience conducting high quality literature reviews
• Strong critical and creative thinking skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Highly organized and motivated
• Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to share ideas with colleagues

Experience with GIS software and data management is considered an asset (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS).

Pay Grade: HOURLY

Salary Range: $19.13 - $28.26 Hourly
