House of Friendship\xe2\x80\x99s Emergency Food Hamper Program walks with our community to prevent and reduce the impacts of poverty, hunger and isolation in Waterloo Region, to contribute to a healthy, resilient community where all can belong and thrive. We are seeking an individual who is committed to strength-based, person focused care to join our team, assisting with special projects and other duties in the Emergency Food Hamper Program. The Emergency Food Hamper Program helps those living in poverty in Kitchener and Waterloo.

** This is a summer contract position, starting May 15, 2023 and ending September 1, 2023.

Schedule will be Monday to Friday, from 9:30am to 4:00pm (30 hours per week).

Exact details of the role will be dependent on confirmation of funding. **

Key Responsibilities:

\xc2\xb7 Support with intake by assisting individuals and families to identify their concerns, increase awareness of and access to resources and make necessary referrals

\xc2\xb7 Support program evaluation and statistics collection through surveys and focus groups

\xc2\xb7 To work closely with community based food programs in various neighbourhoods

\xc2\xb7 Assist with monitoring of lobby area and packing food hampers

\xc2\xb7 Assist the warehouse team

Skills & Experience:

\xc2\xb7 Must meet the following criteria to be an eligible candidate for this role; funded through Canada Summer Jobs:

1) Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment contract;

2) Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,

3) Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. Must be able to provide proof.

\xc2\xb7 Looking for 6 months of customer service

\xc2\xb7 Excellent verbal and written communications skills with comfort facilitating focus groups and speaking to community members about their experiences

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of social work principles and/or food security issues would be an asset

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of data collection methods; experience in this area would be an asset

\xc2\xb7 Experience in a warehouse environment would be an asset

\xc2\xb7 Ability to work independently in a busy environment

\xc2\xb7 Attention to detail, ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task

\xc2\xb7 Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected

\xc2\xb7 Exemplary emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, conflict management and problem solving skills required

\xc2\xb7 Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members

\xc2\xb7 Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs

\xc2\xb7 Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism, anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery

\xc2\xb7 Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude

\xc2\xb7 Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges

\xc2\xb7 Excellent project, timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics, planning and detailed record keeping

Rate of Pay:

At House of Friendship all compensation ranges are categorized under a series of \xe2\x80\x9cgrades\xe2\x80\x9d and we base our payment structure on internal equity. When determining rate of pay, a candidate\xe2\x80\x99s past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience are currently on the pay grid. Note: Most new team members will start somewhere between the start rate and the mid-point of the range.

Grade: 3

Min: $18.13

Mid: $20.59

Max: $23.05

Working Conditions:

\xc2\xb7 Temporary summer contract position

\xc2\xb7 30 hours per week, generally daytime, weekday hours

\xc2\xb7 This position involves heavy lifting; must be physically able to lift and move heavy items

\xc2\xb7 Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected

COVID-19 Vaccination Policy:

To maintain the safety of staff and participants, House of Friendship has implemented a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. All Staff hired after October 19, 2021 are required to provide proof of being Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 as a pre-condition of their employment or placement offer. If an individual is unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19, they will be required to submit written proof verifying a medical reason or by submitting a request under the Ontario Human Rights Code and agree to regular Rapid Antigen Testing at least two times per week. When documentation has been received and approved, House of Friendship will provide accommodation up to the point of undue hardship in compliance with the OHRC and may follow up to receive further information and/or documentation as required. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the immediate revocation of an offer of employment.
