, this position supports inclusive programming across all Trico summer camps by identifying camper needs, connecting with families, exploring support strategies, coaching day camp staff, monitoring progress, and evaluating intervention effectiveness. As needed, this role may also provide support to the broader day camp program.
Qualifications:
Post-Secondary in Education, Child Studies, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work (Human Services or Social Sciences preferred).
Must be available for the full term:
June 9 - August 22, 2025
Required training dates:
June 20: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, June 21: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, June 22: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
8-hour shifts scheduled between
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday
Minimum 2-years direct experience supporting children and youth with diverse needs.
Supervisory experience is an asset.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (submitted before the camp start date). A receipt must be provided if the application is in process. A previous check is valid if completed within the last six months.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
High Five Certification is an asset.
Per grant requirements, candidates must be 30 years of age or younger at the time of grant placement.

Performance Responsibilities:

Administrative Tasks:
Work in recreation software system and Connect App to keep record of camper needs and alerts (i.e., medical, behavioral, social, emotional, court orders).
Educate and coach day camp staff about inclusive programming.
Effectively communicate camp updates and changes to all team members.
Assist with medication administration and record keeping.
Report any accident/incident to the Child and Youth Programs Coordinator and Director (complete paperwork as needed).
Help coordinate and facilitate extra supervision times as needed (i.e., early/late care, lunch).
Act as point person and monitor 'Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids' initiative.
Submit end of season summary report to direct supervisor.
Training and Mentoring Camp Leaders:
Communicate child's goals, needs, and support to camp team.
Consider a wide range of needs when assisting staff in adapting program plans (physical, sensory, dietary, social/emotional, developmental, cognitive, and behavioral).
Be an active participant and support during program time (role model, prompt, emotional support, encouragement, positive reinforcement).
Monitor staff performance throughout the summer (provide positive / constructive feedback, regularly update supervisor).
Assist Team Lead to ensure safety procedures are reviewed by all staff prior to leaving on off-site activities.
Support day camp staff coverage as needed.
Provide Additional Support:
Be responsive to children's individual needs and abilities.
Take a strengths-based approach and focus on progress.
Take a family-centered approach by ensuring desires of the child's family are considered.
Identify intervention strategies and set goals that ensure children's safety while supporting physical, developmental, social, emotional, and sensory needs.
As needed, assist with personal care (i.e., dressing and swimming).
Provide first aid assistance when needed.
Be a positive role model:
Serve as a role model to campers by presenting a supportive/caring/engaged approach and professional appearance.
Actively promotes Trico's mission, vision, and values.
Maintain Facilities:
Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of camp facilities.
Ensure equipment is properly stored and maintained.
Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Coordinator.
Enforce Safety Protocols:
Be a positive and pro-active role model who demonstrates proper use of equipment, adherence to rules during activities, and assisting with replenishment of materials (i.e., collection of first aid kits, first aid/incident forms, laundry, cleaner refill).
Follow-up on incidents and codes by providing clear/detailed reports.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
May be required to lift and move items weighing 30 lbs. or greater
Work with cleaning supplies
Duties may include field trips, participating in indoor/outdoor sport related activities (including entering the swimming pool)
Working in a noisy environment
Work Schedule:
Full-time hours (40-hour work week) will be required and will necessitate flexible hours within the general Trico Centre scope of operations Monday through Friday in keeping with the needs of the department. The weekly work schedule will be developed cooperatively with the Child and Youth Programs Coordinator to effectively accommodate the needs of the position, department, and organization. No overtime hours can be worked as per the Grant Agreement.
