Position Type: Full-time, Temporary Starting June 1st

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm

Compensation: Competitive Pay, Based on Experience

At Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families' Light Up A Child's Life Camp, we are dedicated to providing a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for children ages 3-17 living with physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy. We are a family-focused community leader that provides support, resources, and opportunities to children and families living with physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy, throughout their life journey. We are looking for a passionate, organized, and motivated Summer Camp Coordinator to lead and help oversee all camp operations, ensuring the highest quality experience for our campers and summer staff.

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Summer Camp Coordinator will be responsible for the execution of our summer camp program and management of the summer camp staff. Some assistance with planning may also be required. This will include overseeing daily activities, ensuring a safe environment, coordinating with camp counselors, and working directly with children with disabilities. This role requires a combination of leadership, creativity, and dedication to create an enriching camp experience for all.

This position may be funded by Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible, you must:

• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period•;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada

Key Responsibilities:

• Program Preparation and Implementation: Prepare and facilitate all camp activities, outings and entertainment in a safe, inclusive and accessible manner. Activities may include arts and crafts, sports, nature walks, music, sensory activities, and various community-based field trips. This will include monitoring the overall camp budget with the Program Manager.
• Staff Supervision: Manage camp staff, including counselors and volunteers. Provide leadership and support to ensure that all staff are equipped to work with children with varying abilities.
• Health & Safety: Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for campers and staff. Oversee the adherence to health and safety guidelines, including medication management and administration, emergency procedures, and ensuring that camp facilities are accessible.
• Parental Communication: Maintain open communication with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on their child's experiences, and any concerns that arise.
• Problem-Solving: Address any issues or conflicts that arise during camp sessions, ensuring a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Program Manager, and other support staff to ensure that all needs are met, and that the camp runs smoothly.

All duties will be carried out in a manner consistent with the mission statement, policies and procedures, bylaws, and directions of the President and Board of Directors of the Calgary Cerebral Palsy Association and the Executive Director

Qualifications:

• Proven experience managing teams of 15+ staff, preferably in a camp, recreation, or education setting.
• Previous experience working with children with disabilities (preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children with disabilities, including knowledge of behavior management strategies and adaptive programming.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to engage with children, parents, and staff effectively.
• Ability to problem-solve and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• A positive attitude and a strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all campers.
• First Aid and CPR certifications (or the willingness to obtain them before camp starts).
• A background in education, social work, nursing, special education, recreation, or a related field is considered an asset.
