Hours:

28 hours per week with one evening

Job Summary:

The Substance Use Counsellor provides early intervention, treatment and support services for individuals and their families affected by drug and alcohol dependency and misuse. Services include individual counselling, group counselling and prevention programming. This position requires an understanding and knowledge of substance use issues such as: chemical dependency and behavior, barriers to recovery, harm reduction and substance affect.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Social Work with a Masters' Degree in Social Work preferred.

A minimum of two (2) years' experience in substance use treatment or an acceptable combination of education and experience in the social services field.

Skills and Abilities:

Sound knowledge in current Best Practices in the treatment of substance abuse.

Ability and skills in leading group counselling sessions on substance use

Ability and skills in providing one on one counselling in substance use

Ability to provide effective prevention programs

Ability and skills in providing strength based programming

A non-judgmental and inclusive approach

Ability to work with a range of individuals from all backgrounds

An understanding of the comprehensive systems of counselling and treatment in substance use including treatment, harm reduction, prevention and enforcement.

Additional Requirements:

Current Police Information Check (PIC) with vulnerable populations enhancement.

Valid Class 5 driver's license

Reliable vehicle as occasional travel is required.

Rate of Pay:

$40.03 per hour
