The Student Travel Counsellor will provide tourist information to visitors regarding area attractions and events, accommodation and food services options, and any other services required by the travelling public. The position reports to and takes direction from the Visitor Information Centre Manager and in the absence of the VIC Manager, the Annapolis Board of Trade VIC Liaison. Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Maintain a strong local knowledge of all attractions, facilities, events and promotions.
  • Counsel visitor and tourists visiting the region on all the area has to offer.
  • Promote the immediate area in and around the Town of Annapolis Royal to provide our visitors with a positive and memorable experience.
  • Give directions and provide written material for locations within Annapolis Royal and area and throughout the province of Nova Scotia.
  • Promote local tourism attractions, culture and heritage.
  • Provide accurate and informative information on the Annapolis County and other provincialtourism regions.
  • Assist in communications to others on behalf of visitors. (Web access, public phones etc.)
  • Ensure the VIC facility is kept clean at all times.
  • Work in a safe manner and advise VIC Manager of any potential risks.
  • Perform other duties as they arise and are assigned.
Specific Skills: We require an enthusiastic, knowledgeable person with excellent customer service and communication skills for this student position. Specific skills also include the ability to retain extensive detail and organize efficiently. The ideal candidate will have the proficiency in the following areas:
  • Post-secondary education or admission to post-secondary institution,
  • Emergency First Aid Certification (course to be completed on the job, before June 30, 2023)
  • WHMIS Certification (to be completed online before June 30, 2023)
  • World Host and Service First training (time will be given to complete)
  • Knowledge of the recreational, cultural, and historical attractions of the area
  • Proficiency in word processing (Word), data entry (Excel) and email
  • Competency in posting approved content to VIC social networking sites (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluency or working knowledge of both English and French language is preferred, but notessential.

Contract length: 6 months Salary: $14.50 per hour Schedule:
  • Day shift
  • Holidays
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
