Responsibilities





The Student Transportation Planner may undertake planning, coordination, research, analysis and communications tasks in support of a broad range of planning projects and initiatives, including best-practice review, literature reviews, data collection, synthesis and analysis, research projects, policy review, drafting of reports and memos, and preparation of presentations.

Qualifications





Requires completion of a minimum of two (2) years post-secondary education in an undergraduate degree program in a discipline related to urban planning/design, planning, geography, environmental studies or other related discipline. Must still be enrolled. Completion of courses in office procedures, word processing, database and spreadsheet software. Requires up to (3) months previous experience in planning related, data collection, data analysis, research and graphics software and a further period of one month on the job to become familiar with TransLink\xe2\x80\x99s Regional Transportation Network.

This posting is for two (2) positions within TransLink\xe2\x80\x99s Transit Planning department; one position will support the Transit Network Management team and one position will support the First Nations Transportation program.
The First Nations Transportation Program is the actioning of TransLink\'s commitment to bring or improve transportation options to First Nation reserve and treaty lands. The student planner will support staff in delivering key components of this ambitious workplan.
The Transit Network Management team is responsible for developing near-term transit service plans and service changes for Metro Vancouver, ranging from annual and quarterly and up to 10-years time horizons. Responsibilities within both positions may include:
  • Perform data collection and analysis through data analysis software (e.g. Tableau, Excel) to analyze and summarize ridership, transit service performance, travel patterns and engagement results
  • Support in the development of maps, graphics, and slides that clearly convey program objectives, analyses and potential solutions to internal staff, community members and leadership.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of transit improvements in response to the transit needs of First Nations
  • Support in engagement efforts with First Nations\xe2\x80\x99 staff, community members and leadership.
  • Working with partner government & operating company staff to evaluate and support the development and implementation of service changes in response to changing customer or operational needs
  • Responding to customer and stakeholder inquiries
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. For the First Nations Transportation program position, candidates with a strong understanding of Indigenous communities and people with experience with transit and/or transportation to and within reserves and treaty lands would be an asset, but not required. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions, including a written exercise.
These positions are expected to begin in late April or early May 2023. This position is full time temporary for 4 months, with the possibility of an additional 4-month extension.

Work Schedule





37.5 hours per week.

Work Designation





Hybrid
This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.

Rate of Pay





Salary $4,690 - $5,628 per month (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
The Total Compensation Package includes Extended Health, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan upon eligibility.
