Job Description

Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborates with faculty, staff and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and student-centric approach to learning and academic success and act as a professional resource in the delivery of evidence-based student enrolment, wellness, development and academic support programs and services. Reporting to the Director, Advising and Careers, the Student Success Career Advisor will develop, deliver and assess career and co-curricular programs, events, and services for students through the Bissett Student Success Centre, including the delivery of a high-quality peer coaching program. They will play a key role in promoting and supporting career and experiential learning and co-curricular engagement through the myCareer platform.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic advising to student populations and assist students in the development of goals that support program choice of study, career exploration, strengths and interests.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and training of the Peer Coaching Team for the Bissett Student Success Centre. Provide direction and supervision to Peer Coaches and set regular schedules to meet the service standards for peer advising and front desk support.
  • Oversee Dalhousie's co-curricular record including the delivery, administration, promotion, relationship management, data management, and evaluation of the program.
  • Assist in the design and facilitation of programs and services that promote student learning and development based on current research and data on student learning and career development theories.
  • Enhance students' awareness of available educational and career resources (such as honours programs, tutoring, co-op programs, study abroad, other experiential learning opportunities including volunteering or part-time employment) and make appropriate and purposeful referrals.
  • Establish rapport with students, groups, colleagues, and others that acknowledge differences in lived experiences.
Note

Hours may fluctuate based on student demand. Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and some weekend assignments will be required.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, plus approximately 3 - 5 years related experience working in a helping profession.
  • Experience with program development, implementation and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with academic and co-curricular partners, students and student groups.
  • Competency developing equity, diversity, inclusion and access (EDIA) practices and programming
  • Proven strong written and oral communication skills.
Assets
  • Experience in a post-secondary, educational or non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of career practices and principles.
