The

Student Services Advisor

works on the strategic implementation of programming that supports student outcomes, student experience, and academic rigour.





The

Student Services Advisor

is the first point of contact for students, staff, and visitors of the College. The position is responsible for triaging all requests and/or inquiries and providing exceptional customer service, advice, and assistance. It will also provide student advising services during peak times of each academic term.

Members of the UP community College students and alumni Instructors Counterparts in other colleges within the division



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES




Support the Student Success Manager in the promotion of programming relating to all areas of student life, ensuring students have a smooth transition into the College and to the University Partner Oversee college reception duties and provide front desk advising Respond to in-person, telephone and email enquiries from applicants, students, instructors, and staff in a timely and professional manner Provide administrative support service for the college Facilitate transcript maintenance and student document management Ensure compliance with data integrity processes Support the strategic enrolment management systems of the college with an emphasis on retention, success, and student experience Maintain breadth of knowledge required to engage in one-on-one advising of college students Engage with industry best practices in the field of intercultural communication Participate in the delivery of holistic student programming rooted by theoretical framework and evaluate for effectiveness in achieving strategic goals Other duties as required



QUALIFICATIONS AND SELECTION CRITERIA





ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE




Bachelor's degree strongly preferred; 1-3 years prior experience in student affairs, coordinating student programming and/or event planning Customer service experience Knowledge in the provision of exceptional customer service Demonstrated organizational and coordination skills in managing all functions of a busy office Strong work ethic and integrity Commitment to quality assurance in student support Understanding of academic and social challenges faced by students undertaking post-secondary studies, particularly transitional issues with the demonstrated ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters High-level interpersonal and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to consult and liaise with a wide range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds Ability to organize and prioritize multiple issues/tasks of varying priorities Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively monitor and coordinate a workload which may consist of multiple tasks of varying priorities Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to assimilate new software and social media platforms Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or in possession of a valid work permit Ability to work flexible schedules within the normal business hours of the College



DESIRABLE SKILLS




Experience in a higher education environment with exposure to the academic needs and requirements of international students Experience in a multicultural environment A degree in a relevant field from a recognized university Experience providing advising services to clients, particularly in an academic context Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills
