is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term

Student Recruitment Specialist

for approximately 12 months.


The Student Recruitment Specialist is the primary point of contact for prospective graduate students in Science programs. The purpose of this position is to identify, recruit, convert, and admit high quality applicants for the professional and academic graduate programs in Science. This position will develop and implement graduate student recruitment strategy to increase the number of highly qualified applicants to the graduate professional programs and increase conversion from admitted to enrolled students.

This position is a demanding high-energy, high-profile, role that requires exceptional public speaking skills as well as the ability to deal with the community and public in a professional, tactful, efficient and effective manner. The incumbent must be comfortable delivering public-facing presentations, and communicating with audiences from diverse backgrounds. This position reports to the Student Recruitment Lead.



Summary of Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning


Planning, developing and executing recruitment, marketing and conversion strategies for the graduate programs to maximize market awareness and applications to the programs. Require expertise in recruitment, communication, marketing and knowledge of global and domestic markets. Meeting recruitment targets by initiating, developing and managing market trends. Working with the Marketing and Communications team to identify market segments, their needs and our opportunity for market penetration. Develop targeted recruitment strategies to maximize market reach and impact. Planning and executing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks appropriately and setting deadlines. Managing complex issues, while ensuring high impact projects are on schedule, on budget and aligned with Faculty of Science strategic goals. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with team members, staff, suppliers, clients and other target audiences on and off campus. Work collaboratively on marketing and communication strategies with the Marketing/Communication team to inform of the current trends and provide ROI assessment. Work collaboratively with International Specialists in Science and in other University of Calgary units. Develop expertise and proficient knowledge of Faculty of Science graduate programs and related admission processes. Use quantitative measures and qualitative assessments to track and analyze success of recruitment efforts. Working with the proponents of new programs to complete and present competitive analysis, informing their design and positioning while under development.

Lead Generation & Recruitment

Promoting and publicly speaking about our programs at internal and external events including information sessions, industry events, tradeshows and webinars. Monitor and report registrations and recruitment statistical data for professional graduate programs. Collaborating with directors of the individual professional programs to analyze market needs for executive programs by identifying new target markets (individuals, organizations, associations) Generating and qualifying suitable applicants to professional graduate programs. Working with Associate Deans Strategic Partnerships and Innovation and Graduate Education, the GSC Manager and extended team to define strategies, processes, and initiatives to achieve revenue goals through financially viable, high quality executive development opportunities. Lead the recruitment of high-caliber prospective participants for the professional programs through the development and coordination of recruitment activities. This includes information sessions, regional and national recruitment activities, meeting with industry HR contacts, tradeshows, and other activities. Implementing and maintaining current information on leads, contacts, proposals and utilizing a CRM system. Respond to candidate inquiries via web forms, emails, phone and other means. Researching industry trends and reporting back to management team to inform decision-making.

Lead Conversion & Follow-up


Develop and update conversion plans and materials including e-marketing content campaigns, call campaigns, conversion presentations, lead follow up, and other engagement initiatives. Liaise with the Development and Alumni Engagement team to plan and conduct alumni surveys. Work with Science leadership to use Canadian Graduate Program Student Satisfaction surveys to support appropriate changes to Science programs. Correspond and communicate with leads to accelerate the sales cycle and drive conversion which includes follow-ups, a high-level of customer service and sales cycle tracking. Draft compelling and competitive proposals / bids by working with the management team, academic directors and faculty. Provide guidance to potential applicants regarding financial assistance opportunities, career opportunities and alumni successes.

Marketing


In collaboration with the Director, Marketing and Communications and Associate Dean Strategic Partnerships and Innovation, provide input on the professional programs annual strategic marketing and communications plan. Working with the marketing and communications team, take proactive measures to constantly evolve the marketing and communication initiatives to align with industry best practices and market innovations.

Reporting


Define, track and report on lead generation, conversion and qualification metrics for each program to support enrolment targets. Prepare weekly recruitment and registration number reports to inform key stakeholders. Provide regular KPI updates, including presentations to Senior Leadership team. Measure effectiveness of recruitment activities through analytics and data mining and report back including suggestions for continuous improvement.

Other


Assisting with the admissions in peak periods; including but not limited to seeking additional documentation from applicants, updating PeopleSoft and Synergize when necessary, reviewing student files to determine completeness and eligibility, tracking admission status' in various places (Microsoft Lists, Excel, SharePoint), and participating in orientation events.


Qualifications / Requirements:



A bachelor's degree is required; an MBA or Master's with a background in Science is preferred. At least 3-5 years of progressive student affairs required, student recruitment experience preferred. Proven skills in networking, relationship building, negotiation and key account management is required. Track record of independent experience where individual initiative is key attribute. Strong planning, time management and organizational skills, as well as effective decision-making, multitasking and problem solving ability in a deadline driven, high volume environment required. Familiarity with analytics and marketing, and sales KPI tracking and reporting is required. Exceptional relationship-building ability with potential and existing students, and internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels is required. Highly developed ability to deal with competing requirements and job demands. An ability to work effectively and efficiently without supervision is required. Excellent written, oral, presentation and project management skills are required. Professionalism and strong work ethic, as well as the ability to operate effectively within a dynamic, customer-facing team environment is required. The ability to handle ambiguity and resolve emerging issues with initiative and a collaborative mindset is essential. Willingness and ability to travel and to work weekends as necessary. Proven ability to manage heavy workload, stress and multiple priorities with high level of initiative, flexibility, thoroughness, accuracy, and attention to detail is required. Advanced computer skills including MS Office Suite (including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Power BI), Marketo, and PeopleSoft required; ) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system knowledge would be a strong asset. Experience with international clients, and communication/collaboration with external units are considered assets.
Knowledge of University of Calgary culture, policies, procedures and core business systems is considered an asset.
