is currently seeking a Full-time Regular

Student Experience and Engagement Specialist

.


The Student Experience and Engagement Specialist works closely with the Associate Dean, Teaching, Learning and Student Engagement and with student engagement staff from across the university to develop high quality, contextualized programming to enrich the student experience for all science students. These programs include supporting various student clubs and organizations, creating stand-alone student engagement activities or workshops, and facilitating supports for learning The Student Experience and Engagement Specialist will evaluate the effectiveness of current student engagement initiatives, gather and provide feedback on student engagement programming, and continually update programming to maintain alignment with Faculty goals.


Reporting relationship: Reports to the Director, Student Experience


Work is based on campus, with typically one work-from-home day per week after completion of the probationary period.

The work station for this role is in a shared open-office environment.

Includes both independent tasks and collaborative work with faculty, staff, and students.

Communication may occur in person, by email, video conference (Teams/Zoom), and phone.



Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):


Program Coordination

Support AD Teaching, Learning and Student Engagement in implementing and managing student experience programming in alignment with institutional and Faculty of Science strategic plans. Recruit, supervise and manage teams of Science Ambassadors and other student volunteers. Provide in-scope supervision to the Science Careers and Engagement Co-op student. Collaborate with Science Student clubs on initiatives to engage with students. Communicate effectively with department, program, and Faculty staff on student experience initiatives and programming. Coordinate the Student Experience fund (IDEAS Fund). Collate and aggregate data collected from undergraduate engagement projects. Develop and complete program evaluations for student success initiatives; includes gathering and maintaining student experience feedback (e.g. feedback from program participants). Manage program growth predictions and program sustainability for the Science Mentorship and Student Ambassador programs. Work with Student and Marketing Events Coordinator to recruit and coordinate Science student volunteers (e.g. Science Squad Program) for faculty events and special projects. Maintain the Science Experiences module in Elevate. Assist in communications for (and coordination of) events/workshops for undergraduate students related to: mentorship, student wellness, networking, careers, engagement experiential learning and development. Collaborate with other units within the University (i.e. Alumni Services, OSLE, CCPD, Wellness Services, etc.) on activities for student enrichment. Prepare monthly Project Activity Reports on current undergraduate initiatives. Maintain program budget (e.g. for events). Provide direction and mentorship for Co-op student(s) that may be assigned to support the portfolio of the Student Experience and Engagement Specialist. Collaborate with the Community, Inclusion & Belonging Specialist to help foster a culture of holistic wellbeing and inclusivity in the Faculty of Science.

Marketing and Communications

Create, implement, and maintain a plan for communicating student experiences and engagement opportunities across different media platforms (e.g. D2L, invitations, flyers, social media, electronic newsletters, posters) that meets university branding guidelines and fit with overall Faculty of Science communication plans. Collaborate with the Student Marketing and Events Coordinator on routine communications to current or prospective students (e.g. student newsletter). Liaise with the Faculty of Science communications team and other units within the Faculty (e.g. Graduate Science Centre, Business Operations) and within the University to prepare student communications with appropriate context and timing. Coordination and Support of Experiential Learning Initiatives. Coordinate and facilitate the Faculty of Science review processes that connect to student learning (e.g. experiential learning mapping) by defining milestones, monitoring progress, and reporting. Collaborate with the Taylor Institute, Office of Institutional Analysis, and the Provost Office to ensure alignment with institutional guidelines and standards.

Qualifications / Requirements:



Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) required. Minimum 5 years of student services, student affairs or student engagement experience is required. Experience in developing and implementing a student mentorship program or other student engagement programs is an asset. Ability to successfully handle serving large numbers of students with a constructive approach and responsive attention to detail. Project Management experience is required. Requires strong communication skills, including strong written and oral communication, in one-on-one and group settings. Strong critical thinking, judgement and decision-making skills are required. Ability to work under pressure to meet strict and multiple timelines. Demonstrates individual leadership, both when working individually and as a member of a team. Demonstrated ability to be resourceful, creative, innovative and flexible. Required computer skills include: Elevate (or similar platform); D2L; MS Office 365 including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel, as well as Teams, , Sharepoint. Experience working in a large, dynamic team with proven personal effectiveness and productivity is required. In-depth knowledge on how to create online supports, recruitment, and communication materials for programs. Knowledge of university policies and procedures associated with the portfolio supported is an asset.
Ability to build relationships to accomplish goals with diverse groups within and outside of the Faculty of Science is essential.
