Student Recruitment markets the University's programs and services to promote the recruitment and admission of students. The Student Recruitment Officer engages prospective students, parents, guidance counsellors, and other stakeholders in conversations regarding The University of Winnipeg, its programs, facilities and opportunities for students. This work is performed in Winnipeg, rural Manitoba, across Canada, and internationally.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and conducts presentations and workshops promoting The University of Winnipeg to prospective students, guidance counsellors, parents and teachers.
  • Provides information to students regarding the full range and types of undergraduate programs offered by The University of Winnipeg, as well as explaining processes related to admissions and how to apply, course selection, and registration, through email, phone and in-person activities.
  • Represents The University at student fairs, career fairs, parent nights, networking events, and other recruitment outreach opportunities.
  • Promotes the city of Winnipeg and Manitoba to an international audience.
  • Plans and hosts on-campus visits for individuals and groups.
  • Conducts campus tours for prospective students, guidance counsellors, parents and others.
  • Maintains good working relations with domestic and international high school counsellors, acting as a primary point of contact for The University of Winnipeg.
  • Ensures that all individual recruitment efforts, activities and communications are consistent with established structures, policies, exemplary customer service and quality assurance principles.
  • Receives, screens, responds to and refers inquiries to other Student Services, where appropriate.
  • Is familiar with the range of UWinnipeg Student Services and student supports.
  • Manages personal schedule of recruitment activities, presentations and follow-up, as well as prospective student appointments.
  • Prepares all media and materials required to fulfill presentations, online fairs, etc.
  • Researches and recommends recruitment strategies in existing and prospective markets and provides recommendations regarding particular activities/opportunities in assigned territories.
  • Trains new and long-term agents and institutional partners on UWinnipeg programs, admission and agent policies and practices, and applicant profiles, in assigned markets, acting as the primary point of contact for the agent.
  • Troubleshoots problems within the online application portal.
  • Coordinates travel planning and school visits with other partner institutions and plans travel itineraries and schedules for overseas recruitment activities, in collaboration with Coordinator and/or Director and in accordance with University policy.
  • Manages personal travel schedule, completes all travel expense reports and manages receipts and expenditures in keeping with University policies.
  • Prepares thorough and comprehensive trip and activity reports and maintains accurate records of interactions.

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline is required. Graduates from The University of Winnipeg preferred.
  • 2 years experience in recruitment or student services; prior experience in sales, marketing or public relations may be considered.
  • Knowledge of a second language considered an asset
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the nature, purpose and value of a university education and be able to communicate that to various audiences.
  • Detailed knowledge of The University of Winnipeg's academic and extra-curricular programs and functions of The University at all levels is essential.
  • Must have very strong oral presentation skills with the ability to improvise
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have strong organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with a Customer Relationship Management system considered an asset (e.g. Salesforce, Recruit, Banner)
  • Must be skilled in using multimedia applications and be proficient in the use and operation of desktop and laptop computers and peripherals, digital projectors, as well as online file sharing and email programs, social media tools, virtual meeting software, and office software programs and applications
  • Must be able to relate positively, professionally, confidentially and with cultural sensitivity toward prospective students, high school administration and faculty and be able to relate constructively with a variety of people both on and off campus.
  • Must be able to cope successfully with fluctuations in workloads and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work effectively on time-sensitive matters.
  • Must have a high level of personal integrity and professional initiative.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must hold a valid Manitoba Driver's license.
  • Must be willing to work in the evenings and weekends, and/or incur overtime, when workloads and deadlines merge.
  • Must hold a valid passport and be available to travel in Manitoba, out of province, and internationally.
  • Must meet all requirements for entry to recruitment venues including proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person.
