The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario's capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The OSC is currently recruiting for a Student-At-Law - Governance & Tribunal Secretariat position to work from August 2026 to June 2027. Governance & Tribunal Secretariat Student-At-Law
The Governance & Tribunal Secretariat provides support to the OSC's Board Directors and to the Capital Markets Tribunal and its Adjudicators. The Capital Markets Tribunal is an independent division of the OSC established by the Securities Commission Act, 2021. The Secretariat administers the Tribunal, safeguards tribunal integrity and procedural fairness and provides education to Adjudicators. Governance & Tribunal Secretariat counsel attend hearings to provide independent legal advice and assistance to hearing panels, as required by the panels. They provide advice on adjudicative matters, including advice on administrative law, rules of procedure and laws of evidence.
The Governance & Tribunal Secretariat is currently seeking a Student-at-Law. The Student will be responsible for conducting legal research and providing opinions and memoranda of law. The Student will become involved in all aspects of Tribunal proceedings and will work closely with Governance & Tribunal Secretariat counsel and Adjudicators. Responsibilities may include reviewing hearing materials filed by parties, preparing evidence summaries, observing submissions during hearings and assisting with other aspects of the hearing process.
Role Requirements
Applicants must have excellent academic records and be experienced in legal research and writing. To excel at this role, applicants should have strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing demands on their time. An ability to seek out additional information and adapt their style to suit their audience will serve applicants well in this multi-faceted role. The successful candidate should be able to build strong relationships, take initiative, and demonstrate a willingness to learn. Familiarity with, and interest in, adjudication, administrative law, procedure, evidence and securities law would be an asset.
