The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario's capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The OSC is currently recruiting for a Student-At-Law - Trading & Markets position to work from August 2026 to June 2027. Please see below for a more detailed description of this opportunity. Build your work experience through an articling opportunity with Canada's largest securities regulator.

Trading & Markets Student-At-Law
The Trading and Markets Division is responsible for regulating market infrastructure entities in Ontario, such as marketplaces, self-regulatory organizations (SROs), protection funds and clearing agencies as well as overseeing derivatives regulation and dealer policy development and implementation. The Division also develops policy relating to market structure, clearing and settlement and fixed income.
Role Requirements
Applicants must have an excellent academic record and demonstrate strong legal analytical abilities and an aptitude for, and enjoyment of, research and working on challenging operational files and policy projects. Applicants must be able to work independently and collaboratively. Familiarity with, and interest in, securities law would be an asset.
To excel at this role, applicants should have strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple demands on their time.
