Student Assistant, Digital Skills Help Centre
Job Summary:
The University Library provides USask students with learning and academic support, helping them improve their research, writing, math, study, and digital skills. We are currently seeking people-oriented, tech-savvy graduate students to join our team as part-time digital skills tutors. In this role, you will empower students to become more effective and confident users of technology for learning. This will be achieved by helping students use a selection of USask approved or endorsed software and tools for their studies in an appropriate, ethical, and responsible way, including generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI), thereby supporting students to develop digital skills, and become more digitally literate.
This position is ideal for applicants with excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
In the appointment as a Digital Skills Student Tutor, general duties and responsibilities will be to:

• Provide support via one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions during drop-in help sessions and scheduled appointments (online and in-person).
• Assist students in using a selection of USask approved or endorsed software and learning technologies, including USask essentials such as MS Office, PAWS, Canvas and Zoom.
• Develop and deliver workshops on best practices for using technology to support learning, including appropriate, ethical, and responsible use of Gen AI tools.
• Engage with USask students through outreach activities that support campus efforts for developing AI Literacy on campus.
• Model problem-solving strategies and ethical practices for using technology effectively and responsibly, encouraging students to become self-directed learners as they develop an understanding of tools and processes.
• Provide, recommend, and/or model effective use of resources.
• Provide referrals to other library personnel and campus units as needed.
• Prepare instructional resources or materials related to digital skills and literacies.
• Collaborate with the centre coordinator and other library personnel to identify common student digital skills gaps and literacy challenges and brainstorm solutions.
• Participate in other University Library initiatives and outreach activities (depending on interests, experience, skills, and availability).
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

Your general location of work will be: Murray Library 1st floor rm 134. You will report to Jill McMillan, Learning Specialist.
Required Number of Hours: Approximately 167 hours during each of the academic terms (August 25, 2025 - December 12, 2025 & January 5, 2026 - April 17, 2026).
A typical schedule will be 9 to 12 hours per week during busy periods but will be adjusted for slower periods, and during the November and February academic breaks.
*Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
Duration of Employment: August 25, 2025 - April 17, 2026.
*Students are required to be available for some online and in person training the week of August 25 - 29.
Qualifications (Skills and Abilities)

• Must be a currently enrolled graduate student at the University of Saskatchewan.
• Experience with tutoring or teaching is a plus.
• Strong understanding of commonly used software, learning technology, and basic Gen AI concepts, and a willingness to learn about additional tools and platforms as needed.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to support students who possess differing levels of experience, ability, and confidence.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work on site during assigned shifts.
• Familiarity with the University Library's academic supports and campus supports and services.
