Full time (35 hours/week) - One full-time, permanent
Positive Living Niagara is a community-focused organization composed of passionate staff and volunteers. We are committed to providing support, education, and advocacy for individuals affected by or at risk of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted blood-borne infections (STBBIs). We are dedicated to fostering inclusivity, equity, and the meaningful involvement of those we serve.
To provide direct support services within the framework of the StreetWorks program. The harm reduction program aims to reduce the transmission of HIV and other blood-borne infections among people who use drugs, to engage clients and support them into testing and treatment services, and to provide individuals with harm reduction education and supplies.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide client-centered support using a harm reduction approach, including emotional, supportive, and health-focused counselling.
Advocate on behalf of clients within community, health, and social service systems to reduce barriers and improve access to care.
Offer system navigation by connecting individuals to appropriate community resources and services.
Coordinate and negotiate referrals to health and social service agencies.
Participate on Niagara Region's Situation Table, and other local and provincial committees
Maintain professional, non-judgmental engagement with individuals who use substances, ensuring safety, dignity, and inclusivity.
Provide education to other service providers around harm reduction and break down stigma
Provide evening outreach as needed
Offer training on overdose response and the use of Naloxone
Distribute harm reduction materials and information, including syringes, as per public health regulations and protocol
The incumbent will adhere to the Mission Statement and Policy and Procedures of Positive Living Niagara and will represent Positive Living Niagara in a professional manner.
Qualifications:
A college or university degree in social or health services with experience in addictions and mental health in the community social services sector, ideally within a harm reduction environment.
The incumbent will hold a valid G driver's license with a clear driving record and able to provide a drivers abstract as per company vehicle insurance policy. Have access to a reliable vehicle.
The incumbent will have a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Required Skills:
Experience and/or training in substance use and harm reduction support
Street-level and/or encampment outreach support
Demonstrated organizational skills
Ability to show initiative
Strong documentation skills
French language skills an asset
