As storm events increase in intensity and frequency, you will help support Nova Scotia\'s resiliency through the development of regulations, guidelines, standards, policies and educational tools that will bring together climate science and the best in green and grey approaches to stormwater management.About YouAs the Stormwater Program Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing to develop municipal stormwater management planning and design guidelines and implement a funding program to support municipalities develop management plans.
  • Reviewing and evaluating technical reports and submissions received in support of regulatory approvals including the review of environmental assessments.
  • Contributing to the vision, long term goals and strategies for advancing the department\'s approach to stormwater management.
  • Leading the development of regulatory amendments, standards, guidelines, policies and procedures and internal training tools to support program outcomes.
  • Providing support, as a subject matter expert, in public meetings, community outreach programs, interdepartmental task force or committees dealing with specific water resources management issues.
Qualifications and ExperienceYou are a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensed to practice in Nova Scotia, or eligible to be licensed in Nova Scotia, with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Environmental Engineering. You are an intermediate to senior engineer looking to take on a impactful project and role that will make a difference for people and communities across the province. To ensure you are successful in this role, you have at least 6 years of applied experience in the following areas:
  • Flood control, stormwater management and drainage improvement projects.
  • Green and grey municipal stormwater infrastructure design.
  • Development of municipal and industrial stormwater management plans.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for infrastructure improvement project designs.
  • Synthesis and communication of technical information to a variety of audiences.
  • Project management and stakeholder engagement.
The following additional qualifications and experience will be considered assets:
  • Strong computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing and presentation packages.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation, regulations, policies and programs relevant to water resources management in Nova Scotia.
  • Experience in the design, construction, and/or monitoring of culverts, bridges, road drainage, natural channel design and restoration, fish passage infrastructure, erosion and sediment controls, and/or other hydraulic structures
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills that allow you to synthesize and articulate complex technical information to a range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Graduate education in a related field.
