Steam Cogeneration Coordinator, Christina Lake Regional Project

The Steam Cogeneration Coordinator works closely as part of the Facility Optimization team to support the overall Operations Team. This is a critical role for MEG Energy to achieve its operating mandate of safe, reliable, and predictable operations.

Reporting to the Optimization Specialist Lead, this position will provide facility surveillance by monitoring the plant process performance to assure envelope compliance. You will also support Operations leadership on continuous competency development within the operating teams to assure a safe and reliable operation and remove uncertainty of future operations. This is done by driving meaningful interventions to the operation of the plant daily.

Your Day to Day will include:

  • Responsible for monitoring Steam, Power and Utilities operating limits and key performance indicators. Drive meaningful interventions to the operating team to assure operating envelope compliance.

  • Highly focused on safety of front-line workers, providing visible leadership, involved in incident reporting and investigation, lead, or participate in after action reviews.

  • Support the development of operating limits, key performance indicators and facility surveillance tools.

  • Support operations and engineering in root cause problem identification and troubleshooting.

  • Support in the implementation of new initiatives and technologies

  • Support in the development of procedures and training material for the Steam, Power, and Utility areas. Support Operations leadership in verifying procedure adherence.

  • Support the Operations Supervisor in prioritizing maintenance work to reduce schedule break-ins and facility unplanned downtime.

  • Support in developing the annual OPEX budget and adherence to budget for the Steam, Power, and Utilities area.

  • Knowledge of Alberta Reliability Standards, governed by AESO, to ensure regulatory compliance of MEG\xe2\x80\x99s power producing assets.

  • Advanced knowledge of substation and high voltage electric distribution and transmission systems.

  • Knowledge of industry regulatory requirements including Acts, Regulations, Codes and Directives; ABSA, OHS, Alberta Energy Regulator (AESO)

  • Support in the design, commissioning, and turnover of Steam, Power, and Utility area projects.


What you will bring to MEG:

  • Interprovincial Power Engineer certificate, 2nd Class is preferred.

  • A minimum of 7 years related experience in Cogeneration is required.

  • Extensive knowledge of PLC\xe2\x80\x99s and DCS (DeltaV) is considered an asset.

  • Experience working with Real-Time Data Analytics Software (PARCview) and MS Excel is an asset.

  • Experience with GE Frame 7 or 9 Gas Turbines is preferred.

  • Experience with Heat Recovery Steam Generators, Once Through Steam Generators, and Drum Boilers is preferred.

  • Proficiency in applied Boiler Feed water chemical treating for boilers operating above 10 mPa is required.

  • Proven leadership capabilities demonstrated through implementation, commissioning, start- up operation and troubleshooting of various steam processes is required.

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, organization and communication skills are required.

  • This position is based at our Christina Lake operating site working a 7 x 7 (Tuesday - Tuesday) rotation schedule, in a camp environment and flying out of Calgary or Edmonton.
