We are seeking a permanent Electrical Technician to join our Transmission Line Maintenance North Department in Thompson,

Manitoba.


Responsibilities:


Ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and initiatives, plan and organize the installation, inspection, commissioning and

maintenance of all electrical equipment and apparatus associated with the Transmission and Distribution System.
Perform all necessary operations of station and auxiliary equipment including restoration of equipment to service under

normal and emergency conditions.
Hold switching authority to oversee and perform the execution of switching operations, coordinating with System Control

Centre (SCC) System Operators and other Technicians or stakeholders.
Develop, review and perform detailed switching on station distribution equipment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols

and operational standards including equipment loading within limits before switching and isolating equipment on the bulk

electric system.
Responsible for ensuring SCC switching orders are correct before preforming switching on bulk electrical system. (Prints

reviewed, ensure clearance points are correct).
Perform switching, grounding, and issuing of "clearances to work" to other work groups or sections. Carry out all calibration, functional, and operational tests necessary to ensure the effective operation of protective relaying and


control equipment.

Create and maintain Trip Test Procedures for all NERC impacted relaying schemes. Keep abreast of technological advancement, maintaining a high degree of technical competence and ensuring on-the-job

training of junior staff.

Analyze test results and follow through with repair, replacement, make recommendations, prepare and submit detailed written

reports.

Ensure that duties performed comply with Corporate and regulatory environmental requirements. Report any incidents or

situations that may be harmful to the environment or in violation of Corporate or regulatory requirements to the Electrical

Supervisor or Station Senior Electrical Technician.


Ensure maintenance records, station procedure write-ups, print revisions and test procedure instructions are kept current. Responsible for assigned vehicle and equipment maintenance in accordance with Corporate policy. Provide standby duties as required.

Qualifications:


Possess a Manitoba Certificate of Qualification as a Power Electrician and completion of Manitoba Hydro's Training Program

for Power Electricians, or equivalent as determined by Manitoba Hydro plus a minimum of three years experience as a Power

Electrician Journeyperson including a minimum of one year experience with energy control system switching and protection

relay maintenance.
Possess a Certificate of Qualification in the Energy Control System granting switching authority on Manitoba Hydro's bulk

electrical system or equivalent as determined by Manitoba Hydro.

Completion of TSO&M Protection Training (Levels 1 & 2) Certificate of Qualification allowing relay testing on the bulk electrical

system or equivalent as determined by Manitoba Hydro.
Maintain a valid Power Electrician's Licence. Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba


Hydro policy P513.

Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training is required and must be completed prior to transfer date and renewed annually. Familiar with applicable computer systems and programs for equipment maintenance and analysis. Required to have an aptitude for the application of technical skills to electrical, mechanical and electronic equipment. Familiar with and adhere to Manitoba Hydro's Safety Rules, Corporation Policies, Union Contracts, Canadian Electrical Code,

WHMIS and Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Thoroughly conversant with safe working practices including the use of protective cards locking devices, and the job planning

process.

Familiar with station and system operation, construction standards, test procedures and the use and care of instruments and

tools.

Regularly exposed to high-voltage environment, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols. Physically capable of performing all the duties of the position. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Required to wear Arc Resistant Clothing as specified by Manitoba Hydro's Corporate Employee Safety and Health Rules. Possess an approved set of hand tools. Possess a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.

Notes/Comments:




The successful applicant will reside within a Thompson headquarters zone and within a 30km travelling distance from the

assembly point during the periods of standby. In the event that this requirement causes the employee to incur incremental

costs during periods of standby, such costs will be the employee's responsibility.

Salary Range



Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $41.97-$59.69 Hourly,

$80,414.36-$114,373.74 Annually.
