The Slaight Family Centre for Youth in Transition at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is a donor funded clinical research centre integrated with a large clinical service for transition-age youth who are at-risk for, or at early stages of severe mental illness. The main goal of the Slaight Centre is to put more young people with severe mental illness on a path to recovery through a large program of research focused on the development of new and innovative treatments, health services research, enhancement of early detection efforts, and clinical brain research.
The Slaight Centre at CAMH is seeking a full-time, permanent Staff Scientist. The successful candidate will lead neuroimaging research in youth at-risk for or in the early stages of psychosis, and youth with autism spectrum disorders, with a specific focus on positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The Staff Scientist will engage in collaborative research in partnership with scientists in the Slaight Centre, the Child Youth and Emerging Adult Program at CAMH, and with scientific teams across the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute, including establishing joint studies with partners to advance knowledge and treatment innovation in psychosis and autism spectrum disorders. The Staff Scientist will hold a Scientific Appointment in the Slaight Centre, and report to the Director of the Slaight Centre.
The Staff Scientist will support ongoing and new neuroimaging research projects through the Slaight Centre in youth with psychosis and autism spectrum disorders, and their responsibilities will include acting as a co-investigator or lead investigator for research activities, including securing new funding from external agencies. The Staff Scientist will also provide mentorship of staff and research trainees including undergraduate and graduate learners, and will also work in collaboration with other research teams within the Slaight Centre and across CAMH to provide methodological expertise in their area of focus.
The Staff Scientist will be responsible for all areas of research and will also disseminate research results through presentations at academic meetings and conferences and communicate ideas to key decision makers. Participation in leadership advisory groups at CAMH and externally is expected. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Toronto.
