The Staff Accountant's main role is to insure an accurate and timely accounting process and to assist the Accounting Manager and the Director of Finance and Management in the day to day operations of the Hotel Arts Group.

As a member of our Accounting Team you will champion and be the leader in the Department and in the following areas - Accuracy, Effectiveness, Efficiency and Compliance of Financial Reporting, Financial Analysis, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Cashier, Income Audit and Payroll as follows:

  • Maintain Critical Dates list and ensure the deadlines are met.
  • Assist Accounting Manager with monitoring cashflows and alert Director of Finance of any concerns.
  • Verify accuracy of internal and external reporting on a daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly basis.
  • Bank/Cash flow management.
  • Clear cashed cheques and verify the outstanding on a daily basis.
  • Monitor Credit Card and Gift Card reconciliations on a daily basis.
  • Corporate Credit Cards settlements.
  • General Ledger review minimum on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare Monthly templates for internal and external reports: daily revenue/labor reports, cash flow, month-end reports.
  • Verify/post month end entries for Hotel Arts Group, including but not limited to: income journal, promos, prepaid, bank entries, accruals, inventory adjustments, expense transfers, allocations, management fees, depreciation.
  • Trial Balance review.
  • Assist with monthly Hotel Arts Group financials set for Management and GP.
  • Complete monthly Bank reconciliation.
  • Federal and Provincial Tax compliance and review.
  • Verify account reconciliations and identify necessary corrections.
  • Year-End Audit related questions and schedules.
  • Data collection for negotiation of Business and Property Tax Assessments.
  • Create and maintain Contracts register and identify opportunities for better terms negotiations.
  • Create and maintain Capital Expenditures register.
  • Responsible for new hires in Accounting: position description, hiring, on boarding and training.
  • Train the Accounting Team and plan their career path: performance evaluations and identification/analysis of quality issues, growth opportunities and future plans.
  • Special Projects (such as Payroll transition/procedural and software improvements etc.).
  • All other duties as assigned by DOF.
Position Requirements:
  • 2-3 years previous Hotel Accounting/Finance experience required
  • Previous Hotel Accounting/Operations experience an extreme asset
  • Active knowledge of Micros POS and Opera PMS Systems
  • Active knowledge of Sage Accpac
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office/Computer skills required
  • Ability to multi-task
  • May be subject to a background check
