Job Description


Acden Aves is an environmental services company providing avian deterrent and wildlife sweep services at various oil sands mines us. We are a partnership with Acden - one of Canada\'s largest Indigenous-owned companies.We are seeking a designated Sr. Wildlife Biologist to join our Avian and Wildlife Management Program in the Alberta Oil Sands.The successful candidate will work on a fly-in/fly-out basis with camp accommodations provided. The schedule is generally 7 days on, 7 days off to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life. We also offer comprehensive health benefits, RSP savings plans, and other incentives.The Sr. Wildlife Biologist is primarily responsible for overseeing wildlife sweeps and survey work, as well as nest relocations and our avian deterrent and management program, primarily at our Suncor Fort Hills client site. The role is also responsible for related data analysis and report writing. In addition, the Sr. Wildlife Biologist will:

  • Participate in our avian deterrent and management program at site.
  • Conduct nest relocations, wildlife sweeps , surveys and assessments in remote terrain. Identify wildlife specific habitats and wildlife.
  • Compile, manage, and interpret data, and draft sections of technical or regulatory reports.
  • Understand and interpret provincial and federal wildlife legislation.
  • Install and maintain recording units (ARU\'s) and remote wildlife cameras.
  • Assist with site or government permit applications and reviews.
  • Mentor and train biologists as required.
Qualifications:
  • A degree in biological (or related) sciences, and a professional designation are both required, plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience in breeding bird surveys, wildlife sweeps and wildlife surveys and sharp-tailed grouse lek surveys, with a varied knowledge of Canadian wildlife and industry standards.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in the preparation of wildlife management plans, reports, and proposals; specific to project needs.
  • Solid working knowledge of provincial and federal wildlife legislation and regulatory requirements, primarily in western Canada.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance and industry best management practices and mitigation measures related to construction projects.
  • A valid class 5 driver\'s license and the ability to read, write, and communicate in English are both required to work at our client sites.
